It was always my understanding that when pinion teeth counts go under a certain number the dims do not follow the mathematical sizes. If you look at HPC or DAVALL they change the size from ideal to slightly smaller, they do explain why in their catalogues.

tenacity 5 flux is what you need to use and if job is quenched while fairly hot it usually dislodges most of the flux but the rest will have to be mechanically removed.

Don't forget that a traction engine boiler is not only a pressure vessel but a chassis as well having to take a few knocks and bumps on the way which yours would not have to worry about. Just a thought.

If you look at the Clarkson t & c grinder the rack sticks out on that and its one of the best regarded grinders. The stent is really just its baby. I have been using mine (short base ) for 35+ years without any real problems. The only part I did not like was the rear mounted table stops so made the popular design that fits on the front of the machine.
