I seem to recall he creditid Henry ford with the concept of standardisation, and no mention of a certain

Mr Whitworth quite a few years before old "enery". Once i spot an error like that i tend to question the rest.

Cheers Derek.

Gentlemen, you are still getting it wrong calling it singing. It is more a strangulated yodel, and that is with or without Roxy. Singing is what Elvis did.wink 2.

Cheers Derek.

Nick, I can't remember Bryan Ferry SINGING anything. Cheers Derek.

Thread: New WARCO machinery
23/06/2013 22:30:32

Hi Rik. The noise on that lathe is atrocious ! I have the Chester UK equivalent (DB20VS) and compared to that, mine just whispers. I would ask Warco to have a look at that right now. Cheers Derek.

Thread: Number drills
14/06/2013 22:36:22

I forgot to say that the reason for the big rush to buy the 115 piece set from Arc Euro **** £15.00 **** Cheers Derek.

14/06/2013 17:24:35

Many years ago at the Harrogate show, I bought a 115 piece set from Arc Euro. 1/16"- 1/2", plus a set of number, and letter drills. When i bought mine at about 10.30 am on the friday, they had two pallets full of these sets. Having got my bargain, i went back to find my mates in the cafe to tell them. The conversation was overheard by lots of others sitting nearby all of them got to their feet and headed to the Arc Euro stand. When walking past the stand a few hours later they were down to a single layer on one pallet. Up untill that time i had never used either number or letter drills, however i now use them very often. If i need a hole to be spot-on size, i use one to drill a few thou under then ream to finish. Cheers Derek. P.S. They are still in use every day.

Thread: Return key
06/06/2013 16:03:38

The return key will not work for me unless i use the compatability button, but when i do that the text disapears behind the ad's, so i can't win either way.crook cheers Derek.

Thread: What milling machine?
03/06/2013 20:24:37

Nice one Michael. yes If there is an easy way and a hard way to do something, you can bet i will find the hard way. Cheers Derek.

I read somewhere that in any recirculating ball device there are two sizes of ball. One size is very slightly smaller than the other and they should be inserted alternatly. the reason for this is because alternat balls have to rotate in opposite directions and this causes too much friction on the bearing walls. I don't know if this is true, but it does seem to make sense. If this is the case you may need to spend a while with a mic, and two small trays to get the thing working again. Cheers Derek.crook

Thread: The Return/Enter key
22/05/2013 20:53:40

Steve, I have had the same problem for quite a while now, without findind a proper solution. Baldric, if i use the "compatability view" the return key works, BUT then the posts disappear behind the ad's, just can't win !!!!! Cheers Derek.

Thread: Complete beginner checking in and asking the usual question!
20/05/2013 20:04:13

Hi Frank, from where you live you will not be too far from Chester UK's midlands showroom, so why not pop round there and have a good look at what is on offer ( i believe they have a sale on at the moment). I have no connection to them just a satisfied customer as i have a DB10VS lathe, and a Champion 20 V mill. I agree with Andrew that i use the mill as much as the lathe. Cheers Derek.

Thread: cutting internal gear rings
14/05/2013 17:00:40

Hi Becky, Do you realy need to make the ring gear and pinion yourself ? I have some small ex WD motors that have a planetry gearbox on the end. The inside of the ring gear is about 23mm. one of these motors with gearbox could be yours for £5.00 plus postage. they are a really nice bit of tackle, so i will put a photo in my album. The ring gear is the one in the middle of the pic an has six mounting holes around the edge, and the planet gears (3 of them) are shown on a carrier. If they will do the job send me a PM. Cheers Derek. P.S. sorry the photo is a bit hazy.

Thread: Fibre optic clock
09/05/2013 20:12:16

One of the finished jointsMitre JointQuite chuffed about a bit i got done today. The clock face will be black perspex on an ally frame which will have brass sides. The brass is 16 gauge and i wanted to mitre the corners (83mm wide), so this is how i did it. 10mm cobalt spot drill 90 degree point used as a milling cutter. The pic of a finished corner is not too good but the joint is spot on, on all four corners no less. WOOHOO !

Cheers Derek.

Mitre Joint P.S. Two months late, but Thanks Dennis
