Thread: MOT - am I being taken for a ride?

You could try Citizen’s Advice for a bit of info, I think they are able to refer you to Trading Standards if appropriate.

Thread: Vita brevis
15/09/2022 08:42:10

I have now done two after 74 we just have to phone and request a test.

I wonder if part of the 74 thing is to do with people getting upset over their dead relatives getting reminder letters for such stuff.

Thread: Myford ML7 drip oilers
14/09/2022 20:28:37

For some years my ML7 has been fitted with drip feed units from Adams in Coventry.

As far as I’m concerned they have been excellent, very controllable, go fully off and as a bonus even look like the originals.

Here is a link to the relative page on their site and if you download the PDF mine are at the top of page 5.

Adams

I have absolutely no idea of the price nowadays though.

Thread: Fire hydrant sign
11/09/2022 18:48:28

Difficult to believe because I assumed most people know what those are, we’ve got one (at ground level) on the corner outside our house.

Sometimes the fire brigade come and clear the debris away from around the sign then test the hydrant.

A few more summers like this one and the problems of wood-burning deforestation in Europe will be solved.

Yeaaaa. That would mean my neighbours getting rid of their stinking polluting stoves and we would not have suffer every winter.😀

Thread: Fridge/Freezer Compressor

The start relay would be the cream (off white) coloured device.

If I were you I would remove the first word or two (category) from your list.

Thread: I built a Time Machine

Very impressive work there.

I bet it would give that Steve bloke on Repair Shop food for thought.

no reply from Mortons yet, but I stumbled across my MEW subscriber number. I can now see 319 in the archive Which appears better than before), but still not on pocketmags

Edited By duncan webster on 22/08/2022 22:25:13

It does seem that you may need to change Pocketmags from an old (MTM) account to Mortons, I have not managed that trick yet though!

There is only one answer to the resources crisis

The re-Nationalisation of water and energy

Leaving a bunch of private sector wide boys in charge is no longer an option

They've had their fun and frolicks, and now it's time to get serious again

That would probably make it even worse by the time you incorporate the many admin systems and multiple departments that nationalisation appears to require plus local and National government oversight (interference).

We should however have prevented other nations buying up our infrastructure IMHO.

Bring back the Variac!

You can still get those but the cost would probably buy a deluxe fan.

Thread: Couple of things at Lidl
11/08/2022 11:39:02
Posted by pgk pgk on 11/08/2022 11:18:22:

Lidl returns are painless..just keep the receipt and take the bits back to checkout on your next shop...you generally get 3yrs to do that so no rush....

Yes it works very well, also seems to annoy the checkout operator and the queue behind you especially with something large (ish)!

Seems that may have issues with cuts on top of fuel costs to worry about in the coming winter months.

I applaud anyone that gets out there and try's to earn a living instead of sitting at home living off benefits, I have been a courier driver / rider on and off for the past 20 years or so years and can tell you it is not the drivers and riders that get rich, the working day is long and tiring and the pressure can be relentless.

My big gripe about self employed couriers, deliveroo and all the other fast food delivery drivers and cyclists is that the vast majority if not all do not have business insurance for their vehicles probably because their salary wouldn't cover it.

Some may disagree with this statement but I still know a lot trying to earn a living in this industry .

You might not be applauding one who hits you and is uninsured because of not declaring business useage.

New replacements are available from Myford.

Indeed. As are larger resettable dials that screw directly onto the original screw. It is only a matter of money. Also MEW at some point in the future will be publishing an article I submitted on how to make your own such dials.

Edited By Hopper on 04/08/2022 08:48:28

Yes not cheapo stuff.

Your article might get me making a resetable dial (if I ever get back into the shop).

More about this one on Grace's

Another one at the London Museum of Water and Steam near Kew Bridge.

Handy for us in the region!

I think that Jewellers use things called Doming Blocks and Punches but I do not know if they come in large enough sizes or would suit your purpose.

Might be worth looking into the idea with jewellery tool suppliers (or make your own?).
