I know there are not many footy fans on this forum, but I am.

So well done to our women footballers.

For those who don't know they became European champions yesterday after beating Germany in the final.

I enjoyed every minute of every game although I must say some the language I have lip read has been most unladylike. Having said that these girls ain't no ladies, anything but!!!!

I remember the '66 world cup win. I didn't think it would take this long to do it again! Well done to all involved.

I am surprised in these woke days and the attempted removal of gender specific nouns and pronouns they are still to be called 'Lionesses'. It seems 'actresses' have now to be referred to as 'actors' and we now have police officers instead of policemen and policewomen etc., although I don't think we ever had 'engineeresses'. Perhaps its different in sport?

I found Piers Morgan’s comments on that re: the Lionesses very entertaining .

I have never watched a football game nor do I understand what is going on but congratulations to the Lionesses on their achievement.

More stupid than entertaining I thought. Shameful that a sporting victory was hijacked by a tabloid to take irrelevant shots at transsexuals and the leader of the Labour Party! I guess the Sun Newspaper and Mr Morgan wish to boost sales by fluffing prejudice. Cheap opinion rather than intelligent debate.

'Woke' means having an awareness of social justice. Hard to object to the idea unless one believes social injustice is a good thing. Anyone prepared to argue in favour of the Divine Right of Kings?

Woke appears to mean different things to different people and sometimes might be seen as social justice in reverse.

Some might think it’s (perhaps a minority) trying to dictate the rights of themselves over others as in we want to be allowed to call ourselves X but we will also decide what you will be called.

Politicians also regularly hijack things like sporting victories for their own ends so taking a pop at them and their swinging opinions seems fair game to me.

IMHO.

I have just read some of it and yes quite entertaining but I have better things to do, I think we all know what a women is and also a man? I would suggest we all have better things to worry about, maybe others lay awake thinking about such things.

I make a point of trying not to think about women with pen.... whatever Piers was on about ... while I lie awake at night.

Shame to see a great sporting moment co-opted into the "culture wars" for the sake of manufactured outrage to sell Uncle Rupert's newspapers though. Congrats to the Lionesses I say. Great stuff.

Go woke, go broke.

The Halifax building society did it recently with their ridiculous personal pronoun badges and caused many customers to close their accounts in protest.

Martin.

Well, they could not be the Lions as there is already a pride of them... but as a male contributor to Woman's Hour recently pointed out, in the real feline-maximus world it's the lion-esses who do the hunting, and in teams!

(See Robert A's observation on "it's coming home", above...)

We needed something to pull us out of the doldrums and seemingly endless political crap.

The ladies did that for sure what a brilliant job.

I don't know about Womans Hour, just visit any town or city after closing time on a weekend and you'll see it in action.
