Thread: Vertex Tool Cutter Grinder |
25/11/2012 15:59:49 |
Pete My manual only covers single lip cutters and using the drill attachment. Did your machine come with with the lathe tool and end mill attachment. I know the therory of how to use the end mill attachment to sharpen end mills and slot dills as the principle is the same as using a tool and cutter grinder. if you need any help let me know. Tom |

Doubletop These machines are copies of the Deckel alexander tool & Cutter grinders web page I have the the SO model and bought a manual from the above web site. It covers all the models and is a copy of the the original manuals from Deckal. It cost £30 but was worth the money as it it allow me to understand how the machine worked. Looking at pictures of the vertex the controls and layout of the machine are very similar if not identical I am sure the deckal manuals would help you. tomk |

To fix the formatting of the clasified adds page when using internet explorer 8 go into:
Tools
Compatability View settings
If the box for " Display all websites in compatability view" has a tick remove this
and it should fix the clasified adds page.
This fixed mine

Thread: Late delivery of magazines due to adverse weather |
24/12/2010 12:11:15 |
ME 4393 arrived in post today but no MEW 172 so I now consider the MEW as lost in post and will be asking for another one to be sent out.
All other items I ordered have been delivered so no excuse for the MEW being missing.

My magazines have not arrived yet.
It must just be the magazines that the post office are not delivering
I required a spare part for my milling machine from Arc Euro. Phoned them Friday 15:00 envelope franked as posted at 17:12 and arrived here in west coast Scotland 10:00 am today Monday 20th. Now if the post code of LE16 9EF is the place that the printing company post there magazines then its strange that Arco Euro which are 21 miles away post code LE7 1NA can get parts delivered by royal mail why not magazine printing company. |

Thread: Dial Gauge |
28/10/2010 23:10:55 |
The type of clock that Wolfie has purchased is the type that would have been used in a production inviroment on gauges. This type of clock was used on inspection gauges as a go no go gauge. If you can imagine a compontent that has maybe be 3 or 4 dimension that must be within a certain tolerances. The gauge could have multi[ple clocks mounted on it. The gauge would be set by the inspector using a master component. The 2 movable plastic markers would be set to the mininim and maximum sizes on each clock otherwise the tolerance (e.g. +.010" -.000") 0r for metric (+0.24 mm -0.00mm).
The bezel would be then locked so that it could not move. The parts can then be put into the gauge by the operator or inspector and if all the needles fall within the 2 markers showing the tolerance that part would be passed as ok at a glance. Any clock neeedle outside the markers that part is scrap.
The only problem with using these clocks for truing work on a lathe is that an adapter is required if you want to true a bore other than this problem they do the job just as good as a finger clock.

Thread: 4 1/2 MT |

My machinery hand book 13th edition printed 1948 has a reference to a 4 1/2 taper related to the Morse. The Morse tapers listed are 1 to 7 but there is also a reference to the Americain Standard self holding tapers numbered 0.239 to 1200.
In the list is a 4 1/2 taper.
4 1/2 Amercain Standard Self Holding Tapers (A.S.S.H.T)
Taper per foot 0.62400
Large Dia 1.5"
Number 4 Morse taper & A.S.S.H.T
Taper per foot 0.62326
Large Dia 1.231"
Number 5 Morse Taper & A.S.S.H.T.
Taper per foot 0.63151
Large Dia 1.748
As can be seen from above the Morse tapers for 4, 5, are are the same as the A.S.S.H.T 4,5, So the A.S.S.H.T 4 1/2 lies about midway between the 4, 5 Morse so this is your missing 4 1/2 morse.
In my opinon morse just made it simple by keeping whole numbers why use a 4 1/2 when a 4 or 5 will do the same job.
