I'm in the same boat planning my new shop. At one end of the bench I lille have 5 tote boxes on runners for steel, brass. Alloy, nylon etc but the other end I want to use plastic drainpipe in square section to save space. Only problem I can find is 63mm square when 80 or 100 would be much better |

Far more interesting than the discussion on new diesels in 2040 of which no one here has any control over even it it reaches fruition in 23 years entirely unchanged Edited By John Stevenson on 27/07/2017 15:08:40 |

Gear cutting is a pet subject of mine and I have studied the subject in a other of depth. Many have also trod the path but make classic mistakes like feeding the hob in directly and not taking account of the hob helix angle |

10 out of 10 for getting a class article such as this for the magazine. Jeff has obviously given a lot of thought to the whole process and got it right |
Thread: Who was Ted Barrs? |
26/07/2017 17:40:43 |
Lathes.co.uk give credit to Ted Barrs as the designer of the ML7 during the closing stages of WWll but the design is so innovative in looks as style and nothing like the Atlas 10"that Tony refers to that I feel that it was the most definitive design of the latter half of the 20th century. But who was Ted Barrs? I have odd original drawings from 1947 but his name doesn't appear to feature in any of them. |

Perhaps the performance is linked relative to the price. No one wants to admit they have bought a pup. Logically it's down to surface area and depth of groove hence powerful machines going on to multiple matched belts in stead odds going from C section to D section, to E etc. This is where poly vee score, large surface area with mimimum thickness, allowing a better grip on smaller pulleys |

Why are you even asking? for $100 Canadian you could break it for ten times that. |
Thread: Welding square tubing - Warping! |

Found the pics I wanted, Back in 2012 I decided to scrap a 2 meters between centers TOS lathe for a few reasons the main ones being it was taking a lot of space up, it had some wear and it was attracting the wrong sort of work [ 1 tonne armatures etc ] when it was working which wasn't often.
Once I had started on the project it soon became obvious what the "it will come in handy one day" was.
Virtually all this had been there that long I had no idea it was there so it got skipped.
Machine dragged out and loaded up for a trip to its new home.
The scrapyard.
Which left this. So once the cupboards had been scrapped, racks moved, we got to the relevant part for this post.
3 metre long bench out of 40 x 40 x 3 stick welded with a crappy buzzbox as I couldn't get any of the hard wired Migs into this shop.
And I finished up with this, Laser cutter on one end, bolt rack on the other and space for two working small CNC's with the keyboards on slide out trays on top of the toolboxes. Various metal short end drawers at one end, wall painted and all new electrics plumbed in. Unfortunately it has got to come out in the grand down size and it won't go in the new shed in one piece so I reckon a quick chop with a 1mm slitting wheel where it changes from cupboards to open space where the tool boxes fit, move in two pieces and stitch back together again and a swift repaint to credit a brand new workshop

Just that if you are using a machine with tight belts when you have a jam up the damage is greater. 2HP is well overkill for a S7 If you can afford it then think about a 1HP 3 phase with invertor You will not regret it. |

Electrosteam, After 5 forum posts on here it can go two ways. The good way is you can submit a correct, factual article for Neil to publish. The alternative way is to just carry on and loose the 0.01% of credibility you have left. |

Gas Direct at Newark Can't quote MiG as I only use full size bottles but 1/2 hight Oxy, about 3 foot tall and 6 to 8" diameter costs 4.25 UKP per month rental, no up front charges. Refills are 7 UKP with a one off 10 UKP, per trip delivery charge. All less Vat MiG gas will be very similar on pricing so you have to do the sums over a period of time |

Chris, probably not what you want to hear but 50*50*2 is roughly twice as flexible as 40*40*3 Using 40*40 gives you a far more rigid frame, less liable to warp and also allows larger door and shelf areas |
