How to set up?

![]() 2312 forum posts 112 photos | Can anyone suggest how to set up endmills and slot drills so that the cutting edges are square to the grinding wheel? I suppose it could be done by eye but there must be a better way. Brian |

It's basically a rectangle or perspex bolted to the face of a short length of key steel, after having lines scribed on it at right angles to each other at appropriate places. You hold it against the end face of the cutter and align the edges of the latter to the appropriate lines. The eye is very sensitive to alignment of lines so it can be very accurate, using a magnifier if necessary. |

"is someone out there implying that us hobbyists are cheap bas..." Surely he's right Neil, at least about some of us! Anyway, very grateful for the suggestions, all I need to do now is try it; my Union T&C grinder is all set up with my Stevenson fixture complete with one of the ER32 collets that Santa brought, now to have a grind. ![]() 2312 forum posts 112 photos | The video was quite good but confused by the use of a high helix 3 flute cutter. It would have been much more helpful if he had stuck with the 2 flute conventional slot drill. Even so, I've managed to sharpen a 2 flute slot drill satisfactorily, not bad for the first time.
