Possibly OK for warmer climes, but from what I've seen of the process, there's no scope for damp-proofing or insulation, at least at this stage. And not much in the way of reinforcement, either.

Can't get any photos of my Model C just at the moment, but it's the same as Clive's ME10. Held shut by a screw and knurled knob at the front.

+1 for Simply Bearings, always had good service from them, and they are not expensive. No connection other than as a very satisfied customer.

I recall seeing a photo - probably dating from the 1960s - of a Pyrex bowl stood on a block of ice, with molten metal of some sort (I'm fairly sure the caption said iron) being poured into it. The claim was that it could withstand this without cracking. I am a bit sceptical about it.

I had one of these, given to me as a present by the in-laws, in the form of a fiendish jigsaw puzzle. Fearing I would never get it back together if I disassembled it, I think I passed it on to a friend. Or maybe it's in the back of a cupboard somewhere? It was in a box with a name on it, I'll try to find out what it was.

My copy of "The Vintage Motorcyclist's Workshop" by "Radco" advises never to use silver steel for spindles, or any parts of the suspension e.g. in girder forks.

Now we know why.

If you have the equipment, I'd recommend testing the battery voltage when it's under load - I used a multimeter, and a 240 volt filament bulb. The battery voltage when charged should be around 48 volts. The LEDs and push button on the battery probably won't show anything useful.

My suggestion from your previous thread still stands, I'd take bets on the problem being inside the battery pack, and most likely the circuit protection board.

Saw this video earlier today which shows how to make what would seem to be the best of both worlds regarding backplate vs Morse taper. Basically a threaded "nose" which takes the collet. Only hard part for me would seem to be machining the taper for the collet.

Quite fancy having a go at making one myself one day - it's on the list...

Just been watching this video by Mark Presling where he shows an interesting trick for drilling thin sheet material. Can't wait to try it out!

The locknuts are fairly obvious if you look at the back of the assembly (on an ML7 at least), so if there aren't any, it may be that a differerent method was used on that particular machine. Seems unlikely though.

Swarf - I think Bricky needs to replace a stripped gear, there's another thread about it.

I'm by no means an expert, but many years ago when I helped out in the school library repairing books, Copydex was the glue of choice.

Tried IPA, didn't work as well as expected.

Servisol is good, but last time I had a dirty potentiometer I'd run out, so tried Ballistol instead. Worked a treat.
