Thread: Tool and cutter grinder wheel dressing. |
12/12/2022 23:01:27 |
When I dress a grinding wheel either for the off hand grinder my Diamond wheel grinder or cutter grinding wheel wheels I use one of these. A carborundum dressing stick, a diamond dressing stick, a chistle edged single point diamond on single point diamond holder with fine adjustment. This is used to rough dress any wheel carefuly Norton dressing stick. This is used to dress a diamond wheel to remove build-up and ckean up diamonds in face of wheel. This chistle edged diamond is good to shape a wheel edge ie undercut or radius etc. This is used to straight dress a face or side of a wheel to shape it can be held in a vice or magnetic stand or can be used on a off hand grinder to follow the edge of the toolrest to produce a straight face and put on small cuts. There are other dressing tools but these are the ones I use. David

Hi Robin I had a similar problem with my monitor and it was a capacitor in the power supply faulty. It took a while to get the casing open firstly without damage then a quick search of the components showed that the top of one capacitor had a raised blown top. Ordered a new one on line, actually a 5 pack, but very cheap and problem solved. I found some information on line to give me a bit of help to get the case open. David |

Watch the outlet for your boiler if you have a condensing boiler as if the condensate drain freezes the boiler can flood and cut out. NO HEAT. David |
Thread: Flooded gas pipes |
09/12/2022 22:09:57 |
I used to make the tooling for the new plastic tubing and fittings which are now installed to replace cast iron tubing and fittings. In certain places cast iron is still used i.e. across rivers for instance and some pipe grows after installing inside the old cast iron pipe with the gas pressure which is 22mb usually. There is also some plastic pipe which has a metallic ribbon inside the plastic which can be used as a network cable. The pipe is tested to 10 bar in laboratory set up and in one test is that it is ripped out of the ground with a JCB digger bucket without rupturing or losing pressure. The fittings have a heating element built in during manufacture which melts the joint and fixes the fittings when cooled. The house tap is pressed onto the larger area pipe and clamped whilst welded on then the pipe to the house etc is put in and also welded to branch spigot. Then a cutter type piece is screwed down to cut the gas exit hole to the house this collects the disc cut from the main pipe and as unscrewed acts as a tap for the house supply and can be used to turn on and off the supply if necessary. Thread: Stopping everything from rusting. |

Asbestos roofs leak heat and it cause condensation to collect there and drip. Insulation is the thing to do either replace the roof or install an insulation layer below the existing roof. We had one similar at work and that also leaked under the wall when it rained as well. We had to lift the sections and seal under each panel, replace the roof with an insulated metal corrugated sheet type and then sheeted the inside walls with indulation and ply wood. David |
Thread: Heminway Kit |

Hi Steve. This is the fixed steady for my M Type Myford. It has bronze tipped bolts. The original bolts were all steel and they marked jobs and do made new bolts from EN16T with bronze tips, not brass as you can get wear. I have made larger bearing bearing faced steady tips for larger lathes but they won't support smaller items. David |

Thread: Surface plate stand |
22/11/2022 09:15:55 |
We made granite surface plate stands with 5 bolt supports the heads of the bolts were shallow domed to contact the bottom of the plate and screwed through pads welded to the frame and used a fine thread and lock nuts. The plate was levelled with three bolts one at one end and two at the other end. When level the other two were just wound up to support the other corners to prevent tipping if a weight was put on the corner. David |
