Hi All

Refurbishing an EMCO Compact 5 lathe and building a DIY CNC Mill from scratch while fixing up the basement and the deck. From which those in the know have probaly already placed me in North America. Oakville, near Toronto, Ontario in Canada to be exact.

Hoping to learn a lot and return the favour in due time - as I get better at cutting metal.

Manfred

Welcome Manfred!

Don't be too worried by things being called different manes on opposite sides of the Atlantic!

We all have the same basic interests.

Happy to oblige. How do I upload photos here?

May have found out how to upload pictures.

Here is the breadboard version of my mill to be:

The rails are a bit of an overkill. Got the 30mm 500mm long (y-axis) I picked up on ebay for US$99.00. Better price than many smaller axes so I simply could not resist.

Stepper is a hybrid stepper which is basically a stepper with a position feedback loop.

Table is off a Shop-Fox M1111.

Motor on the floor (in the box is a brushed 90V DC 3/4 HP motor that is planned to drive a modified Taig headstock. Headstock is still in original condition as are most of the parts.

Very little bolted together yet. Still trying to figure how to get things together so that I can still align and tram things.

Progress will be slow because local management considers fixing the basement and hanging up Christmas lights as more urgent and important.

There's also the inconvenience of a daytime job to pay for the toys.
