I wish the hospital I work in was as well equipped as yours Raphael, Yesterday we went from two patients at the start of shift, to eight at the finish of the shift, throughout the whole time we were doing bloods, abg, cannulation and iv fluids, nebs etc, only ppe available to us was visor with surgical mask, gloves and apron, I hope it will prove to have been enough as I am in my sixties and have a heart condition(s). It is a pity that supply is unable to meet demand at the moment, hopefully it will catch up really quickly.

I doubt very much that the police would try to stop you from working, what they are trying to do is stop idiots from going out for a drive around. I haven't heard of anyone in my area being stopped from working, one or two from driving with mates in the car have been stopped.

I don't think that link for the boxford steadies is accurate, you can get both fixed and moving for a LOT less than that. I agree with most of the comments already made, in so much as getting a ML7 wouldn't be any significant step up. Current Chinese stuff is hard to beat for the price but if you can find a decent used older lathe such as Harrison or Colchester complete with change gears and steadies etc then providing it has no real issues I would go down that route. You might be able to get a friend to help move/install it with you, choices, choices.

I am not really into politics but what part of a military tactic is this then? It's really just taking sensible precautions, you may not know this but the virus has no means of self transporting or transmission, it needs a weak link, that's where the idiots on Brighton beach come in.

The government has certainly made some big mistakes and been slow to act, but I applaud the fact that they have not come down very heavy handed which they could have done. Instead they have allowed the media to show diluted updates about the virus and issued an instruction in a time of emergency, how thick do you have to be to still not understand it. there are some people who possibly will never actually grasp it unless they get the virus. Having now seen several people effectively drown while I stand by helpless to do any more for them I can't urge people enough to do their best and try to limit anything that might mean having contact with things outside the home.

I just wish that I went in to a ward tomorrow where people are not dying before they should do, not only dying but in a painful and distressing manner.

NDIY I can see nothing risky in what you are doing and you seem to have understood the risks and mitigated them.

Great result mate, I am with Neil I would taper and chamfer after knurling and possibly use a piece of leather to protect the knurled part if needed.

By the way, in talking to patients who are fighting for their lives, most have told me that they can't think where or from whom they caught the virus. It seems to be the things that we think we are ok to do that are still catching us out.

Howard I am afraid that I think you have completely failed to think this one through. A barbeque on a public beach is not in any way essential. There may have only been two people stupid enough to do that (is that a fact or a guess). But the government have issued an instruction, not a request and if the idiots in Brighton think that they are excluded then I can only shake my head in disbelief. I suppose that you also overlooked the fact that the police would have been inundated with calls from the majority of people that saw this act of gross stupidity taking place, and then of course there are the weak easily lead, who will think oh that must be alright for me to do because someone else is doing it. I hope the fine is as heavy as it can be.

Great efforts by a lot of people, thanks for posting that Martin, hopefully they're combined effort will beat this damned virus before it kills many more people.

I once had to remove a latex surgical glove from the head of a drunken female. She had fallen over whilst drunk and struck her head. A new health care assistant had been given the task of cleaning the wound and then gluing it together with tissue glue.

For some reason he decided that he needed to use a pair of surgical gloves and in the process managed to glue one of the gloves to the ladies head at the site of the wound. He very sheepishly came to me and asked if I could come and have a look and help him, I couldn't keep back the laugh when I drew back the cubicle curtain and saw the lady in that state.

I fully agree that causing people to panic would be counter productive, it's bad enough now, but maybe if people realised that it isn't going to be like mild flu for a lot of us, they might take more heed of the need to the instructions to stay at home where possible. I for want do not want to scare anyone, but I would be very happy if I thought just one person read my earlier post and thought blimey, I am going to do more to avoid catching this damn virus.

To be completely honest I have my own theory that Boris and co have intentionally been infected now so that they can be treated and observed while there are resources available, this is just my own thought and I could of course be wrong.

I am guessing that Jason has put these bars into holders to show the negative angle and would pack the front of that small one if intended for use so that the grub screw has more tool to tighten onto.

Well they could actually do a little bit more. I know from first hand experience that we (workers on the front line of the NHS) need at least some PPE and we needed it from about two weeks ago. I worked in a busy ward on Thursday where people were really ill (dying in some cases) and I didn't even have a mask to wear, I have been told it would be fine to bring in my own safety goggles from home. The other thing they need to do, is to be more open and honest about this virus. The facts are this,

1 We don't know very much about transmission.

2 We don't know about resilience and latent life or relapse.

3 We do know that it is not just killing the old or those with an underlying health issue. It is killing lots of people and making lots of others very ill.

So in short, they need to really raise their game right now, they need to tell the truth, then maybe people will at the very least realise just how infectious this virus is. My plea to all of you is keep your hands and fingers away from your face and wash your hands after you have touched anything that is not you. Stay safe folks.

I did say I can keep them until the virus has run it's course if someone states that they definitely want them, I just won't post them (they are quite heavy items). I would rather they go to someone that can make use of them than weighing them in for scrap.

Wow so many ideas to try out. The rubber sheet on my myford is not like a bellows or accordian, it's just flat sheet and my intention is to completely replace it.

Lots to go at with the mice.

Just looked on Inverter Drive Supermarket and Schneider 0.75kw is under £100 that's a lot cheaper than I was expecting, must have a look at Newton Teslar as well.
