Thread: Grinding wheel supplier recommendation |

I have a Mick o` Donnell ruby wheel on my 8 " Kef grinder ,i also have a blue microcrystalline wheel on the other side with quite a fine grit (120). Both work well with minimal edge over heating onHSS. But they are quite pricey and as the original poster says nothing fancy then i would also recommend Abtec which i had on a previous 6" grinder. Thread: EBay Rant! |
08/03/2017 11:14:15 |
Martin, your probably knocking your head against a wall. My wife went through a similar thing but actually WON as a seller which is quite rare in my experience. The buyer actually opened a not as described case through ebay for one of those FITBIT wrist things, before he had actually received the item. He escalated the case within 5 minutes of opening it before my wife even had time to read the case details never mind respond. She contacted ebay with all the details and the buyer when he realised it wasnt going his way opened a paypal case. It was a simple case of fraudulent claiming but explaining this to ebay and paypal by providing tracking that he hadnt even received the item yet was extremely frustrating. A blatant abuse of the ebay money back quarantee scheme. She won eventually but what should have been a simple process of proof was like talking to a brick. In your case they are supposed to return the item in the condition you sent it (before refunding the buyer) and if you have proof of the damage you would think the buyers claim would fail . Was the item even covered for insurance when sent back???

camellia oil is extracted from seeds of the tea plant . Correction: no its not its from Camellia oleifera, also Japonica as Neil suggested previously and also a few others including the tea plant. I would guess that a lot of the commercial grade oils are a mixture of several sources Edited By mark smith 20 on 17/02/2017 11:33:25 Edited By mark smith 20 on 17/02/2017 11:35:52 |

Sticky removers wont penetrate the plastic film. I sympathize with you, around 10 years ago i bought a conservatory for self build. After building the dwarf walls , I got waylaid erecting it for 2-3 years and when it came to fitting the polycarbonate roof sheets , the plastic film had deteriorated and would only come off in small pieces. Nothing i tried helped ,took ages to remove it all. Edited By mark smith 20 on 14/02/2017 14:18:49 Edited By mark smith 20 on 14/02/2017 14:19:31 |

Yes its dirt cheap in the US if you can get cheap shipping. Or you can buy in Uk like here 10" length at 86 quid plus vat and shipping for right hand ,couldnt see an option for left hand so thats likely even more. Absolute rip off! https://www.accu.co.uk/en/533-acme-lead-screws Edited By mark smith 20 on 09/02/2017 16:08:09 Edited By mark smith 20 on 09/02/2017 16:08:39 |

Possibly looking as expensive as £20 for 400mm with a flange nut from China. If you search, can probably get a ballscrew & nut for no more than £30. I'm a tight-wad, but it seems not worth machining yourself at these prices. Regards, Richard.
Can you point to 5/8" imperial left hand acme screws in China. Ive looked and all i see are trapezoidal metric screw being called wrongly acme???? Edited By mark smith 20 on 09/02/2017 15:56:37 |

Worth taking if its for nothing, would take a lot of cleaning up before you would be able to see the state of all the important parts. Certainly a total strip down job.The broken base is a problem but could be got round by making a false base plate and fixing it on somehow. Edited By mark smith 20 on 09/02/2017 14:49:12 |

It isnt cheap though which is probably the reason Sean wants to make it. For a short length you could probably get away without a steady rest if you go easy and take small cuts. . I did it easily for my Southbend by just making the new threaded section and fixing it to the old part after cutting the old thread off. |

Hi James, interesting occupation, i make string instruments and bows for a living. Ive done a few with gold mounts but the cost is bloody high for gold so i mainly stick to silver most of the time. |

I bought an older Kef Slibette 8" off ebay for 20 quid a few years back and its a fantastic grinder, i modified the rests though. It runs for like 15 minutes after you switch it off. Like the one in this photo. Bloody hell just checked the price of them and they are around 900 euros with VAT. I painted mine in boxford blue/grey which looks ok in person but very blue in photos for some reason. The original colour on mine was a sort of grey with a greenish bluish tint , and somewhat similar to Rustoleum Mouse grey. If i was doing one again which is very unlikely i would prefer the grey to the blue/grey boxford colour from Paragon paints. it is probably Sept 1941 (is that 40 part of the model number?), is that model 413 or 415? My earlier one is 122171 which appears to be end of 1942. They seem to have been in various shades of grey ,but you could get any colour you wanted if you paid a small surcharge. Edited By mark smith 20 on 30/01/2017 14:42:25 |

I can only find mention of swiftic hss on a new zealand website where its described as Tungsten Moly ,so M2 but not sure about the 260 designation. Strange no company shows up though a few sellers selling swiftic brand cutters etc.. |
