Just refurbed an 8" Wolf bench grinder and need some wheels for it. Nothing fancy just for general purpose grinding, tickling up of twist drills and HSS tooling etc

Anyone recommend a good online supplier ?

There was a thread recently about CBN wheels from The Toolpost in Didcot. I have one from 5 or 6 years ago that shows no sign of wear. I would advise getting at least one of these for your grinder.

I'll second that recommendation. About 18 months ago I bought a blue wheel and a CBN wheel for my 6" grinder for these guys. Very satisfied with both. The CBN wheel does a nice job on carbide too.

I use a company called Abtec, www.abtec4abrasives.com, for abrasive wheels. They have a great selection of products, good prices and will provide knowledgeable advice if asked.

Try PBR Abrasives at Willenhall, No connection.

Can confirm Martin and Rob's recommendation. Knew Mick O'Donnell from woodturning years ago, and the grinding and sharpening items were great.

Now moved on a bit to a more commercial operation. If you can't afford CBN then can recommend the Ruby wheels - have them fitted to 2 grinders, a high speed and a low speed..

Have also used Abtec for wheels for the surface grinder, and satisfied with them.

Brian, PBR that is a blast from the past. I used to buy wheels for work from them over 20 years ago. Didn't think they where still going.

I have a Mick o` Donnell ruby wheel on my 8 " Kef grinder ,i also have a blue microcrystalline wheel on the other side with quite a fine grit (120). Both work well with minimal edge over heating onHSS. But they are quite pricey and as the original poster says nothing fancy then i would also recommend Abtec which i had on a previous 6" grinder.
