Thread: MOT - am I being taken for a ride? |
16/09/2022 10:24:56 |
Just seen this thread and as the owner of a 2007 Astra H for just over 5 years, means I've had the same faults as the OP over the years. Fortunately I do all my own repairs and have a multi system Scan Tool to read and reset the various system fault codes. Going through the faults in order:- 1) Heater Blower not working This is usually caused by :- a) Failed (Or Partially failed) Resistor Pack , This was the fault with my blower. b) Failed Selector Switch c) Failed Blower Motor Both a) and c) are accessed by removing the Glove Box, b) is accessed by removing the switch panel, so no need to interfere with the instrument cluster. 2) ABS Fault and Non functioning Speedometer (As mentioned early on in this thread, these ARE linked) The ABS sensor is in a ring attached the wheel hub and senses something in the Wheel Bearing. The wiring connectors all have Mechanical interlocks so unlikely to work loose (actually a pain to get undone). Corrosion of the Driveshaft CV joint outer, or of the Wheel Hub housing are the usual cause of failure. As the sensor wiring passes very close to the CV joint, the rust flakes can damage the wiring or sensor. Although the sensor ring can be sourced online, the wheel hub and bearing has to be removed to fit, so although more expensive and as most motor factors don't carry the sensor in stock, the whole hub is replaced. The Speedometer uses the Nearside ABS Sensor for it's speed information, so in all probability this is the one that has finally failed. Hope this helps. Nick P.s. Just finished changing BOTH front springs after one was found broken on Mondays MOT. Edited By Nick Hughes on 16/09/2022 10:34:05 |

Tried releasing the license on Alibre's site, and it comes back with something like "this license is not under yearly maintenance". So I could not release it, I guess. It's tied to an old, dead computer. I'd rather put the yearly $50.00 US towards a couple of bottles of wine for the Mrs.; the ROI is better than Alibre, as the wine allows smooth workshop purchases no matter what the cost.
Email Alibre support and they will release the licence for you. The online licence release only works (as you have found) if you have current maintenance. Edited By Nick Hughes on 27/01/2022 12:03:14 |

The original Myford bar, retains the cutter with a tapered cotter. Are you sure that one of the "Cutters" you have isn't the tapered cotter? |

The arbours may be retained in the same way as my D'Andrea TA120. On the TA120, an internal bolt retains the arbour and to access this bolt, the slide and it's actuating screw have to be removed.

Hi, At work, we use Edding 8404 - 01 Aerospace Marking Pens, for part marking. Once dry, it seem to be unaffected by any solvent or chemical that we have on site and can only be removed by abrasion. Might be worth a try. Nick. |

Have a chat with Mark Wood Wheels. He may be willing to scale the Gauge 1 28XX wheel castings he already does, up to 5" Gauge for your friend. I had my 5" Gauge Late Castle Driving wheel castings from him, after asking this same question. Nick Edited By Nick Hughes on 07/05/2021 21:15:36 |
