Hi maccmodels.co.uk here.

Had a few people contact me about this over the last couple of weeks.

Seems our SSL certificate wasn't fully supporting very old devices and browsers. The issue has been resolved today, at a small cost to myself.

I can assure you we pay a lot per year to insure our site is secure. I can also assure you nobody is “hacking” your computer or personal details.

If anyone would like me to send them a copy of my SSL certificate I would be more than happy to.

Kind Regards Joe

Thread: Black Ice
17/01/2016 14:13:51

My icy goes back to the early 70's I work in a steel works and drew one of the 2 short straws and got to work Christmas night most of the steel productions had been 'damped down' with the exception of the blast furnace, we got a call saying the stock yard crane which kept the furnace supplied with coke had no power it was now around 1 am it was snowing and the temperature was well below freezing and ice had formed one the live rails which were inverted angle iron and on the insulators causing a dazzlingly display of pyrotenics when the circuit breaker was closed ! having cleaned and dried the insulators down the entire length of the track we then found the ice was not allowing the power collectors on the crane to contact the live rails so in our wisdom we painted the underside of the rails with anti freeze we now had power only to find the crane couldn't get any traction due to the amount of ice that had built up on the track allowing the wheels to slip out again came the anti freeze and away we went but needless to say we remain on this job all night 100 ft up in freezing snow keeping this one crane in service it was a long cold night until 8.00 next morning never been so happy to see the next shift arrive !!!

I'm a big fan, the only thing I miss is the traditional "my computer" icon and window. This seems to have been replaced with a window containing "frequent folders" and "recent files" with the "explorer tree" on the left as usual however this is also plagued with "quick access" "cloud" "documents" "music" all sorts of crap, then down at the bottom, requiring looking/clicking/scrolling to finally find, is C: D:, my USB key, SD card etc.

These "Bottom of the pile" options, are my most frequently used things bobbing in and out of SD cards and USB keys, so I'm disappointed to find I have to continously fiddle to find and select/transfer files.

That aside, I wouldn't go back to win7 and generally find everything is pretty much where I expect it. I did sort the privacy issues out straight away, several of which were hogging CPU and internet usage.

Thread: How are people finding Windows 10?
30/12/2015 14:42:59

I updated to win 10 as soon it became available and in the main I found it OK but did have one or two issue's with some software not being compatible despite it being stated that it was ! Shortly after I purchased a new laptop with win 10 already installed and I couldn't believe the difference between win 10 and win 10 upgrade and I am now more than happy with win 10 smiley I did backup my files before the win 10 update but found it wasn't required, however I would always recommend this should be done.

I worked in the thread locking industry for a number of years and as it's already been said there are different one's for different applications but if you ever stuck nail varnish can be pressed into service.
