One of the strangest things I experienced involved rain. I was up in the NFD in Kenya and we watched a lone cloud coming towards us, draining rain, you could see it! Then, as it came past it was raining on one side of the road but our side remained dry as it passed, you could reach out and touch it ! Clive have seen same thing with snow came from work one morning after working the night shift and it start to snow to the point I was struggling on my motorbike as I approached Walsall I passed under the M6 at James Bridge and was amazed as the was no snow the other side of the bridge. Gary you have reminded me of that event we had 6 pumps that were it what was termed 'pump house' it was below ground level and when that storm hit the sump pump couldn't cope with the amount of rain water and it started to flood but fortunately as the pumps/motors were on concrete beds the water didn't damage the motors. Prompted by the scrapyard thread what's the strangest thing you have seen, in my case as said previously I worked in a steel work back in the 60's when we had the corn beef scare lorry loads of opened corn beef tin were brought to the steel worked to be destroyed they were tipped then a crane picked them up and dropped them in a large pile the pile was say around 50ft high rats were quickly attracted to this free feast very soon the pile of cans was covered in rat's, rat's standing on rat's the whole pile covered in furry bodies. ... or it may be more prosaic. They computer-generate combinations/permutations of names they pick up anywhere on the internet (here for instance). So for example if they see "Harry Wilkes" here they might generate [email protected] (and hotmail.com and ...); Wilkes@ ... ; HarryW@.... etc. Most of these will go nowhere but some may hit someone. I wouldn't over-think it. Bob/Peter The machine which is related to the email address in question is not connected to the Internet neither is it anyway related to my name. So as you say I try not to over think it but it does intrigue me as how how they got hold of it H |
Thread: A trip to the scrap yard |
17/07/2023 23:15:02 |
In my younger days I worked in a steel works we had three large scrap yards each served by two overhead cranes when we went to repair a crane I always had a nose around No3 yard was a pile of cars which were crushed so rich picking the other two yards had smaller stuff I would be on the lookout for starter motors or dynamos which I would refurbish and make some extra money H

I presume you have a digital readout on the lathe or control, watch to see what position it is going to at each cut, that will give you a good idea what is going on, also speak to Rocketronics? You tool also needs sharpening Tony The readout goes to 40mm every time that tool bit has a radius corner so should I use a sharp corner ? Not sharp small radius is fine for that tool H

If you don't already have a Super 7 manual, it would be worth while getting one from either Myford or Lathes UK. Also you may want to think about joining the Myford Lathes Group https://groups.io/g/myfordlathes https://groups.io/g/myfordlathes They have a manual in the groups files H Edited By Harry Wilkes on 10/07/2023 08:23:41 |

Thread: hand pump for vertical boiler |
06/07/2023 15:45:18 |
I have one of the pumps in the above link which I use for testing the boiler on my 3" T.E and would consider it well over the top for Duncan, the one I use for my Stuart 500 boiler as a 12mm ram and keeps the boiler fed OK when supplying steam for a Stuart No9 H |
