opps! should have read "I do not think Loctite in this situation even the high temperature retainers are Unsuitable".
Hmm... and now, in a third attempt maybe you or somebody else can please explain what the strange sentence above really means??? Regards, Frank |
Thread: Stevensons collet Blocks. |

Might be a good idea to point out to Chris that the idea behind these fixtures is for using them on a mill, not as cheap collet holder in a lathe chuck. Regards, Frank |
Thread: Where have all Ketan's posts gone? |

Oh my - must be an awful crime poor Ketan committed. Let's hope he will be released soon! Regards, Frank |

What are these used for? Why not helical? Best as doorstop for a very small door.... I bought one, years ago, and found it totally useless. Regards, Frank |
Thread: Collets help |

How can I tell in a polite and non-aggressive way that something written here is nonsense? Without getting a hit with that proverbial ***? Naturally it is perfectly possible to hold e.g. a 3.1 mm drill in a 4-3 mm ER collet, - BUT - you have to do it outside of the machine!!! It is necessary to hold the chuck body either in a dedicated holder or, in the absence of such a thing, in your trusty vice. Most (all?) chucks have two flats just for that. Then use the correct spanner for the collet nut and Bob's your uncle. Regards, Frank

Thread: Zinc Electroplating |
21/05/2014 10:15:41 |
Thanks for the explanations Michael, one learns something new every day... Having perused several flavors of Wikipedia, it really seems tat in the English speaking world galvanizing is used for the hot dip process. But I stay with my opinion that in my neck of the woods this is not the case. Please see here: I rest my case now. Regards, Frank |

Thomas, It's just worth mentioning that Galvanizing is not an Electroplating process
Seems I'm the only one hearing Luigi Galvani rotating in his Grave? Even if this comes from a serious firm, what they write is wrong nonetheless. Regards, Frank

Thread: Original maching marks on Myford lathe bed |
22/04/2014 23:01:09 |
Posted by matt sw on 22/04/2014 09:23:19:
Hi Adam, I think they refer to the original hand scrape marks on the bed, usually only see at the tail stock end on a well used lathe. Matthew Don't lead Adam into a wrong lane. The big question is: had Myford lathes *ever* scraped bedways??? I don't own one, and it's a long time since I last saw one in flesh. But I cannot remember - also not from advertisements and pictures - that I ever saw scraped ways on them. Someone can enlighten me if I'm wrong? Regards, Frank |

No, does not. I thought you DON'T want spending hours for setting it up? Rgds, Frank |

Hello, .... It has been suggested to me that I get a copy of The Model Engineer - Volume 1.
Hmm... the Model Engineer Volume 1 is from the year 1898 or thereabout. Hardly to find on Amazon or W.H. Smith. Are you really sure you got this right? I wonder very much why the new boss N.W. does not comment about this. Well, he is boss of the other, much younger publication, so maybe he don't know... Rgds, Frank |

Thread: Lathe facing convex or concave |
25/02/2014 19:44:46 |
Allow me the small but important remark that the pic in the posting by John McN. (28.2; 08:18) shows measuring the direction of the spindle axis, which can point towards or away from the operator. No one with his seven senses intact would correct a facing error by angling the headstock!!! Facepalming, Frank |

Thread: kasenit |
22/12/2013 22:31:56 |
Brian, sorry for playing spoilsport here, but Kasenit does not contain cyanide. It contains a complex salt of Ferrocyanide (could be Ferri-, not too sure which). but one of the wonders of Chemistry is that the same name in different combinations has not the same property. You spice your meals daily with Sodium chloride, which contains Sodium (very nasty) and Chlorine (even more nasty). Will you stop doing that because they both are strong poisons? Regards, Frank

Michael, I hope you are not too much afraid being near some stainless steel boilers which never had been under the eyes of a boiler inspector...

He asked about brazing Tungsten, not carbide. Or do you want to say the same process can be applied? (Hint: read the question before answering...) Frank |
