No, they look equal to me! They seem to open quite wide.

The first ones look like they've been made by an apprentice with other things on his mind.

The second ones look like a nice pair of adjustable odd legs,could be used as a woodwork marking gauge ??

Clive, I happen to have odd legs calipers almost like the ones in your first photo. Mine have straight legs though.
