Dickson toolpost

I have just purchased a used Myford Super 7 that included a Dickson tool post that wasn't installed. The post on the cross slide is considerably smaller than the bore of the Dickson. How is this usually handled. Do I need a different post? Is there a sleeve for the post that I haven't located?

Thanks for any help

You just need a stepped washer thats a good fit over the topslide post and the bore of the toolpost.

Or they do a shaped washer that self centres the toolpost, easy enough to make your own

I suspect that the toolpost you have was intended for a larger machine so first check that you can get the required adjustments in tool height . If that's OK just make up a sleeve - a quick and easy job. If you are fussy, and once you have a good fit, loctite the sleeve into the toolpost.

If by chance the post is too big for the S7 then you could sell it on ebay and use the proceeds to fund a smaller version. However you decide I do recommend the QCTP - a really quick, easy and effective way mounting tools - you will soon get a collection!

Regards

Norman

Thanks all for the replies

I have located the washer that is used with the standard tool post and have tried that. I also will look for the stepped washer as that might be around in the tooling that came with the lathe.

Thanks Again!!!

My first job on my new Myford was making a stepped washer for the Dickson. I probably used the plain washer as a stopgap.

Not difficult to make if you can't find it.

Rod

PS does anyone know how to link to an album rather than just a picture?

Album

Go to your albums and RIGHT click "view album" for the one you want to link to. then from the drop down menu select "copy shortcut" . Then just use this as the url that you would for any link.

Just a tip, that may come in handy, if you have the standard clamp down tool post on at the moment, you will notice a compression spring lifting the casting up, I would leave that in place within the Dickson toolpost, then in ten or twenty years time when you want to hold some particularly large tool or job for machining, it will not be missing or used on something else.

What size post do you have? most of the cheaper holders are for the smaller 00 which is the most common on hobby machines.

Try A and R Precision Ltd. they make and supply the holders from their factory via. ebay. The Myford ones are about 25 mm square and hold 12mm tooling, think they make other sizes as well.

I have moved the last couple of posts to a new thread Rather than drag up this old one.
