Hi All

Just posted some videos on Youtube to help new owners of these now old hat machines to program and operate using the original control system, G and M codes. "Denford Orac Tutor 1" shows the control panel and keypads then goes on to enter a program with cyclic feature. The other 2 videos show a dry run and finally the program in use cutting an aluminium bar. Link below takes you to the videos.

Marcus,

Very interesting, thanks !!

I don't have the machine, and probably never will; but it's fascinating to see it being worked as originally intended.

Another video with facing, turning, inside and outside radius, taper, threading and boring, all on 1 video. Must fit a greater nose rad tool for the taper cuts !!!!!

Hello Emgee (Triac?)

I have just acquired a Denford Orac for upgrade. I would like to fit a four jaw and a collet chuck.

Did you ever identify the spindle nose/ backplate type or a possible supplier?

Regards

Mike

When I was employed I bought a couple of Novaturns for work. I never did manage to identify the nose fitting sad

Interesting discussion about it on Denford forum, with no absolute conclusion, but a link to drawing of possible matching backplate.

I think it may be a case of making a new spindle with standard dimensions or adapt one from a scrap lathe - like a D1-3. Whether it is worth the effort or cost I am not sure - might be easier to just start with an Easiturn lathe in the first place.

Thank you Andrew,

Sounds like you are saying "If you want to get here, you should'nt start from here"

Several leaned sources suggest the Orac spindle nose is to DIN 55021 (modified?)
