I am wondering if somebody could help me oput. I am building a 2"1/4 to the foot Victorian "S" class diesel. It is powered by a 3 cylinder Suzuki enginge with an automatic gearbox. All the panel work is done and I am wondering if sombody knew where I can get some number plates for the side of the locomotive, on I want S317 with the letters standing out white and background blue.

I would be ever so greatful is anybody could help me. George Palmer

You might look around for a place that engraves signs and plaques on plastic, and see if they can do one on material with a white base layer overlaid with blue.

Hello George,

Getting them etched will give a top-notch result, but if you want to 'do it yourself, it may be worth considering fretting the letters/numbers out of 16mm brass and sweating* them onto a background plate.

Neil

P.S. We want to see pictures of your loco!

*sweating = tin the back of the letters and front of the plate with soft solder, wiping the solder off with a cloth while molten (carefully!) then reheat with the letters in place, using a suitable pointed rod to adjust their position, if required.
