![]() 1860 forum posts 121 photos | Hi - Ive got a part with some tapered holes in it, but ive got no pins. The big end of the hole is about 60 thou and its 1/2" long. Do I make them, buy them? What taper will they be? What material? Do they need loctiteing in? Hope you can help. Nigel |

128 forum posts | It really does depend on what the part is from and where and when it was built. Because there's also a metric series of taper pins too. Machinery's Handbook lists the dimensions. But a good industrial tool supplier would also list the dimensions for the taper pin reamers. You might need to make up a imperial and metric pin to see what fits the best. They do need to fit almost as well as a male Morse taper needs to fit the female bore. Pete |

![]() 4318 forum posts 291 photos 1 articles | I got a good supply of taper pins from Proops and found a matching reamer at a boot sale. They work so well I'm surprised they aren't used more often. I have turned up my own pins when I have 'over reamed' the hole and they work fine. Neil |
