Hi, I've had to fully reinstall everything on this here computer. I have just installed Adobe Acrobat 11, and it is working, but if I try to open a digital issue its just gives me a page saying I need version 9 or higher.

This may be a 'not recognising the latest version' error.

Obviously this can't be fixed right now, but could someone take a look in the New Year is it doesn't clear up (I've tried restarting Firefox ut it may solve after a full reboot).

Neil

P.S. this computer is much faster now all the crud has been cleaned off!

Don't digital issues use Flash not Adobe Acrobat ?

Acrobat is a virus like Norton, try using Foxit instead

I've been riunning 11 for about 6-8 weeks and never had a problem with the digital issues. Infact I had to load 11 as I could not view another magazine with anything older.

DOH!

The knack is to avoid all extras and switch off any type of update - even notification.

I hate Acrobat. It's bloated invasive software that doesn't even work very well. The last time it updated itself on my wifes laptop it reset all the file associations without asking. I find that...impolite ( euphemism )

I used to use STDVU - aka Scientific and technical document viewer - when I had Windows on my PC, it's a lean mean pdf viewing machine
Now I use the viewer built into Linux.

I'm beginning to agree. Acrobat barfs on the issue previews on the home page, but not other pdfs I've tried.

Yes, Okular. It works fast and error free here on PCLinuxOS. I believe there is a version available for Windows but I haven't tried it.

The free Libre Office suite allows reading and making PDF's as well as most other things that you would expect from an office suite. Great on Linux Mint, also available for legacy software users.

Yes, Libre Office is excellent and free. It will create PDFs but if you open a PDF from within Libre Office it will be very slow as it tries to decode it and then display it in LO Draw for editing. Opening a PDF in Mint opens something called "Document Viewer" which is not part of the LO Suite and I believe is based on Evince.

Linux Mint is my second favourite flavour of Linux and is a good choice for a first try at getting away from Windoze.

Russell.
