How do I replace the gaslift cartidge in my chair..

 2 forum posts | My workshop chair is probably also a tool. Unfortunately, the gaslift cartridge was leaking, so I'm almost sitting on the floor. Can anyone tell me who manufactures and sells gas lift cartridges. And equally important. How to disconnect the old cartridge?

 424 forum posts 98 photos | As a quick fix, depending how its made, you could put a jubilee clip on the column to stop it sinking.
I did that to an executive chair at work once, it was being thrown out so I grabbed it.
you lose the suspension but at least you can use it.

I cannot give you any specific details - but I can say "with great care" ! Some years ago, a colleague had an accident with a gas-lift chair. He was a great talker, and also renowned for leaning back in his office chair. One day there was a bang from his corner of the office, and we thought he had just leant back too far and toppled over. However, there wa a long silence, so we went to look, fearing he might have knocked himself out falling backwards. We found him just sat in his chair - but face absolutely white, and saying not a word. He then pointed at the seat of the chair, and then at the ceiling. There was a small rip in the chair, and there, poking out of the ceiling, was a metal rod - the piston rod had let go and shot up through the seat between his legs (luckily he was sitting well back!) and had gone up to, and embedded itself in the ceiling. He did speak again later that morning, and thankfully without too high-pitched a voice. Dave |

I was ordering a new cylinder for my own chair here in the UK and then discovered that the delivery charge to here is $105.00. Possibly plus VAT  . just a bit too expensive when my leather faced chair cost less than £40.00 delivered.Regards Terry |
