Propane gas burners

I am looking for information about the construction of small propane gas burners that will run on 3 psi gas pressure ideally will look like a camping gas stove but 10mm diameter I have tried scaling one without the effect I am after.

Paul,
The answer lies in the jet size, I think.   The burner itself is just a flame diffuser.
 
Try a propane gas supplier, or website.   Different gases use different jet sizes.
 
There is also the question of how much air to mix with the gas.
 
The Stuart catalogue lists gas jets and burners, but for a butane/propane mix only.

To answer my own question today I went in to town (Banbury) and purchased a selection of brass tube and a .005" brass sheet (Trinders Model Shop)

 

The main problem was the 0.005 hole for the jet I made it from 3 bits a cap a disk and a holder. I put the hole in the brass sheet with a tap from the small hammer on to sewing needle held in a pin chuck. Then cut the hole around with scissors fitting the 3 bits together with epoxy so that it did not leak.

From the prototype made from tube I have now made the two burners I was after for my engine.

For one of my hot air engines I made a ring burner to go round the top of the hot end.I made the jet adjustable by boring it .5mm and using a sewing needle in the end of the screw adjuster.Just past the jet are two air holes with a sleeve over the holes for adjustment of air intake,I did it this way because I hadn't heard of the brass disc method I must try that.The burner is a hollow ring inside dia 50mm,OD 70mm x30mm high.On the inside there are three rows of 1.5mm holes about 6mm apart,the displacer hot cap is 40mm dia and is central in the hole and the flame is easy to control by ajusting pressure,jet size,air intake.Give you plenty to fiddle with if you get bored.

The burners are now in position and working well the Model "Swish Stirling Twin" will be at Sandown

Hi Paul,nice work,hey look as if they burn well.Is there a shroud around the hot end under normal running conditions?Like the idea for air mixing,I'v been stuck on the lab Bunsen burner type with holes and a sleeve to control the air.I started off with 3 Bunsen burners with jets for LPG.Good luck at Sandown IAN S.C

There is not a shroud the idea is to be able to see it all working and for it to be fully transportable it can be up and running within 3 minutes of being unpacked.

 

The impetus to make this engine came from the standalone feature of the "Fire Eater Engine" and the engineering as an art form of "Halo 5" Air engine see my other videos.

Don't think there s a rule here(clubs may have)but I thought the flame had to be covered,its still a loverly engine,My motors are not works of art,they tend to just grow,bits added-bits taken away,not built for competion.
