Thread: Spark Erosion
05/02/2015 18:42:16

I am putting all my time into making the model hope to beg, borrow of hire time on someone else's spark erode.

05/02/2015 17:27:07

Has anyone got a spark erosion tool that I could use. I need to make some 1:12 scale extrusion dies this involve making a shape that will fit inside a 3/8 circle and cut down 0.125" of steel. I have made 10 blanks they are 0.833" dia 0.125" thick. I will make the electrodes. For notes on my project see www.boscott.co.uk Thank you for your time Paul Boscott

Thread: A simple question
17/03/2012 15:47:26

May I rephrase the question to its more common form.

Why does a steam engine not work.

Thread: Stuart Triple
29/02/2012 12:12:04

I would tend to agree with Ian.

I have built a triple and though I had a sense of satisfaction when 850 hours later it worked the machining was a bit samey also as I did not run it on steam the timing had to be messed about with to compensate for the fact that compressed air does not condense like steam does.

Subsequently I have designed my own engines but it’s a lot of work especially if you really enjoy the machining following proven plans does give you a finished working model.

Try looking at Linley machines they for me have combined good difficult machining using stock bar (easy to have more at one go at a bit) with work of art looking working machines their plans are proven but just plans you have to work out how and which order you make it.

Thread: Living with the digital copies
04/06/2011 22:22:25
On the up side I know exactly where the magazine is and do not have to rummage the cupboards or wish I had kept then in order or justify storing copies that are years old just in case I might one day want to know how to set up a fixed steady as I did today the MEW number 44 was right in front of me.

Thread: New technology in Model Engineers Workshop
21/05/2011 22:44:16

Hello John

That's much more in the spirit of the discussion.

Good 3D solid Cad drawings posted on line. The way forward. Now if we were to use a plastic 3D printer to create the mould. We would only be a few years behind what's going on.

Looking at it like that the old issues of model engineer were much closer to the cutting edje of what was going on at the time.

How long before these become available to the home constructor?

I found this after seeing the "3D creation Lab" stand at The Harrogate show

Model Engineer has always showcased the latest technology I see no reason the Model Engineers Workshop should not follow in that tradition.
