I have just stumbled across the Zoom search engine

[ no, not the Zoom that got us through Covid]

… hidden in plain sight, on https://www.sizes.com and many others !

.

Have a look at this search: **LINK**

https://www.sizes.com/search.php?zoom_sort=0&zoom_query=british+association&zoom_per_page=10&zoom_and=0

and then scroll to the bottom of the page, for the explanatory link

**LINK**

https://www.zoomsearchengine.com/zoom/

This is a modestly-priced localised search engine for your specific site

…Surely what we need here

… I commend it to the developers !!

"modestly priced" vs "free google" it's a no-brainer.

in many ways it sounds like a development of swish-e a search mechanism for web sites that is free software (originally on debian Linux but now windows and possibly Apple ) can be setup to search all the types mentioned - I use it on my own private copy of my web site (relatively small with just 15,000 html pages) but was blocked by the current hosts as being a 'free' Linux system their engineers were only comfortable with windows based systems

I suspect that this bolt-on would vastly improve the usability of the new forum … unless of course it’s already embedded.

Did you try the link that I included ?

Compare that with any or all of the near-useless searches that we use here !

I did try the new forums search and it came up with what I wanted part way down the 5th page. Google gave it to me as the first item so not so useless in my book

I haven't ever come across anything better than Google site search.

It works better than the built-in site searches for Screwfix, B&Q, Wickes and Toolstation for a start! Where would DIY be without Google?

O.K. __ I surrender __ I was only trying to help

The Google site-search [from the home page here] rarely works properly for me when searching for one of my previous posts … It often ‘knows’ that I posted it, but then directs me to the wrong page in a long list of pages.

… irritating in the extreme.

Perhaps the answer is to post less secret
