I made one years ago for our club. I've just sent a WhatsApp round to see if it can be found, if so you're welcome to borrow it.

Yes Dalboy this would be fine excepting my abilities in electronics and buying small quantities of components as I dont have an electronic scrap box, I had thought that a kit might be available as in the days of Maplins.

Maplin. Halcyon days when shops sold useful things.

Another idea might be not to bother building a device with electronics/electrics, but just thread through everything a few meters of thin chain, cut in a couple of places and held together with small padlocks, assuming a thin chain would fit through all the items you have.

If not, maybe some thin rigging wire (not electrical cable), but that would not be as easy to secure and have removable breaks in the loop.

Very quick and simple to build - with items bought from a DIY store. And secure enough to prevent pilfering - or at least warn of an attempt happening. The chain with a padlock every couple of meters would enable items to be released quite easily and the chain then re-secured.

A quick & dirty solution would be to buy a ‘bag alarm’ as used for luggage, etc. … then attach your chain/wire/string/ whatever to the two parts of that.

Hi, you should be able to get everything needed for the alarm that Dalboy has linked too from Cricklewood Electronics No need to dwell over the loss of Maplins, although they do have a website for online orders Maplin but I don't think they have as many components that they had in days past.

Regards Nick.

Would a simple 'pull-the-pin' alarm do the job ? - used to have one of these on my shed door... ..cheap and easy to rig..

Battery and a relay ! Wire alarm to NC contact and Common back to battery. Wire coil to length of wire connected to battery and other coil terminal to battery. If the wire to the goodies is parted the coil drops and the alarm sounds. Relay coil to suit battery voltage. Noel.

You can make the equivalent of a pin pull out connection with a couple of drawing pins in the jaws of a wooden clothes peg and a bit of plastic to separate them.

.

So then there’s only the battery and the alarm to find or make

And do remember, if it can be easily removed (Loco safety valve domes , miniature spades etc), a loop wire does not protect. Perhaps a notice like "Video scanning in operation" may help.
