Hi All.

How do I search albums on this forum, posts as well.

I did quite a few post's, photos and articles many years ago but can’t see how to find them.

One of interest is the article I wrote about fitting a chuck to a backplate.

My user name back then was David Clark 1 but I don’t have access to the hobby store email for that account so can’t log in. Suggestions are welcome.

David

Is the article on the backplate?

**LINK**

I did a search using the search box near the bottom of the home page.

I searched for ‘David Clark 1 backplate’ and this came up.

or this one: ‘David Clark 1 album’

Actually, there should be an article on drilling 24 holes in the face of the backplate, I could do with a copy of this article. I think it had a listing of the program I used. I could do with this listing for my new (to me) CNC mill.

Hi Stuart

I searched using the google search at the top of the home page but nothing was found. I can’t see a search box lower down the page.

The forum doesn't help much with searching.

The 'Search This Site' box top-right looks for basic word matches in Post Titles. Not wonderful.

Much better is the Google Search hidden away half-way down the home page.

Also possible to to search the forum directly with advanced search syntax in your browser. For example:

SillyOldDuffer site:model-engineer.co.uk causes your internet search engine to only return hits from model-engineer.co.uk The syntax is standard, works for me with DuckDuckGo, should also be good with Google, Bing and the other usual suspects. By default albums are created 'Public', and there's no need to login to explore them.

Be quick! The forum is about to be replaced, maybe next month. Images in an album that aren't referenced by a post will be lost.

Thank you Stuart, I found it now. I was not on the home page.

Silly old differ. “Be quick! The forum is about to be replaced, maybe next month. Images in an album that aren't referenced by a post will be lost.”

Is the forum being replaced completely? It has always been quirky, probably because it was custom built.

It would be a shame to lose all this knowledge, almost 20 years with. I hope it will be accesible in the future, to valuable to be lost. I found the CNC drilling article I wanted. Thank you all for your help.

The Yahoo farce lost millions of hours of useful human knowledge, this place is just a blip in comparison

Once they trash Wikipedia there won't be a decent useful repository of human knowledge on the entire internet

Times they are a-changing

I had reservations back when the forum was started. I believe as editor of the magazines I was the first member other than the site designer. He built the whole thing from scratch, hence the difficulty of not being able to modify it to overcome problems.

If I was going to drill 24 holes in the face of a backplate I would set the x and y zero on the centre of the backplate then after drilling the first hole use G68 to rotate the coordinate system 15°, drill the next hole, rotate another 15° and repeat until 24 holes have been drilled.

(set up for first hole)

(code to drill hole)

G68 A0 B0 R15

(code to drill hole)

G68 A0 B0 R30

(code to drill hole)

etc

I'd just let F360 write the code after clicking one hole. But it all comes down to what you have so marking out using a Myford Bull gear and compromised indent may have to do.

The new forum software works, but there are still lots of wrinkles to iron out...

Hi Neil
Same place I was back circa 2006.

Jason, I think a Myford Bull wheel is 65 teeth. Not ideal for dividing.

Some are 60 depending on the model I believe, if not stick a change wheel on the far end of the spindle.

Not sure about wrinkles, more like hills and valleyssad
