Hi All,

Here we have a very well made rotary turret screw press item with 15 different sized holes and plungers with a locking screw at the side.

The plungers seem to have a small amount of clearance in the holes.

No ID anywhere on the tool that I have found so far but it is quite grubby.

Not sure whether to lean towards leather working or jewellers trade?

Any thoughts welcome!

Cheers, Martin

Do the punch and die plates rotate together, in other words are they keyed to each other?

I've no idea if this ID is correct, but could it be a dental press?

Some in the US would seem to be made by WM Sharp, and one gets a mention on P 110 of this document (P117 of the pdf)

It looks like they made long straight ones as well as this round variety, see P16 of this pdf

I'd originally thought it might be for drawing out cartridge brass into small cylinders, so wasn't too far off the mark.
After that I cheated and used Google .
A fresh Google search window now has an icon to the righthand end of the search box, for "Search by Image"
Right click your third image (in Opera browser anyway) and copy image URL, then paste into the Google image search box.
First hit showed an example of a similar device.

Alternatively, visit this site, where you can search Google, Bing and Yandex.
https://smallseotools.com/reverse-image-search/

I understand why some folk might be reluctant to use the latter, but it often yields interesting results, though one has to be a bit intuitive sometimes if you Russian is as limited (absent) as mine.
Also Yandex sometimes doesn't recognise the URL, maybe due to blocking somewhere with the current conflict/sanctions, although I did have problems before that, but right click the source, copy image, and paste from clipboard seems to work.

Yes it is, as far as identification of the gizmo, but as far as I could make it work, it only shows an abstract, rather than the details of the actual patent.
that is, there's some words and a description there, but the diagrams etc seem to be missing.

Another edit
Only just realised my later added comment was in a reply to you specifically, whereas I intended it to be a general reply for  anyone who wished to explore further.

Is it safe to assume this is much smaller than the photo makes it appear?

(Unless it is for horse's teeth...)

Aha !

You need to know how to drive Espacenet

There is a 3-dot icon, which opens a menu … one item being Download

Wait a few moments and I will add a screenshot:

Sussed what was going on now.
On the page I linked to, there was a section for External Links, one of which is to Espacenet, (along with Global Dossier, and Discuss.)
Unfortunately when I tried it earlier, all it took me to was a blank white page.

I'm using Opera as a browser on W10, and for some reason, occasionally hyperlinks don't open correctly, returning just a blank page, sometimes with just a few adverts.
On closing that new tab, and re-clicking the original link, the full page is then usually displayed.
This time it didn't work, but re-booting Opera now allows me to get to the patent.

I was getting stuck before I even got as far as your screenshot
This link took me to a blank page.

Hi All,

Now all cleaned up and working as it should:

dental 2.jpg

Neil: the largest plunger is 16.5mm diameter; the smallest is just over 5mm; the idea was too gradually draw down a thin disc of pure gold into a "jacket" that could then form the outside of the crown.

Different sized plungers for different sized teeth.

It involved lots of annealing I suspect?

Thanks again for all the help here.

Cheers, Martin

Gold is one of the most ductile and malleable metals, I don't think it requires annealing.
