1723 forum posts | Machines took over mass production centuries ago, the sequential control of operations came later. The humble 'Pole lathe' ensured mass production of legs, Chathams block making machinery ensured a lucrative Naval contract and the Springfield rifle works didn't do badly stock making. When Lasers first appeared, the statement used (same as Asbestos) was 'An answer looking for a problem' and lets not forget, Lasers don't ONLY cut. Regards Ian. |

383 forum posts 101 photos | For Christmas, I got a kit of a puzzle box all laser cut from thin ply. I was totally amazed by the tech. Press fit joints that don't need glue, gears that work. It has made me re-think my opinion on those cheap 10Watt CNC lasers. 50Watt is almost practical for home use. I think it will be much longer before a practical, hobby EDM is available. |

![]() 6137 forum posts 893 photos | Lasers still use tubes as far as I am aware, are expensive and blow out regularly like high powered lightbulbs with a lot of use Electronic stuff like plasma cutting seems to be more reliable, especially for heavier work edit ..for Michael....and the monkey pushes the button Edited By Ady1 on 02/01/2023 11:59:41 |
