I have just had a warning from Nottinghamshire trading standards about another scam to get you to download a file to let scammers onto your identity etc. see message below.

Trading Standards are aware of counterfeit Microsoft products being posted out to people. They are designed to appear like Microsoft Office products to defraud residents.

The packages are manufactured to a convincing standard and contain an engraved USB drive, alongside a product key. However, the USB does not install any software when plugged in to a computer. Instead, the device contains malicious software which encourages the victim to call a fake support line. During the call, the instructions given allow the criminals to have access to the computer.

Trading Standards suggests being suspicious of any packages that are delivered that you have not ordered or requested.

Please contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133 if you require further advice or to bring a matter to the attention of Trading Standards.

it used to be a trick played at various conferences - drop a malware memory stick that appeared to be lost by another visitor - most will plug it in!

Similar scumbags trick seen recently. Bank of England claims that new plastic notes are more difficult to forge but it didn't take em long! A sub post office in Brighton is displaying a "£10" note where the postmaster has written across it in black felt pen, "Fake". The note shows a narrow tower in the clear section which looks like Blackpool Tower. I don't currently have a tenner but remember that it has a much wider tower depicted. The fiver also has a much wider image, in this case, top portion of "Big Ben".

So, beware fake plastics!!
