I’m after some magnetic stainless steel and 416 seems to fit the bill but I can’t find any at a sensible price. I need some 4mm, 3/16” or 5mm rod, or even some dowel pins in those sizes 20-25mm, 3/4” - 1” long.

I found one supplier that was selling 1metre lengths of 4mm rod at £2.06 plus vat but they wanted £19 postage Plus an additional £17 handling fee!

If dowel pins I only need about ten. Any help in sourcing these, or other grade magnetic stainless much appreciated as my googling for it has worn out! laugh

M-machine are a couple of quid per 300mm length and 6 quid postage upto 2kg

Ringwood who I use quite a bit are £8 for 3 x 330mm and £6 postage or £14 for postage if you want 1m lengths

Vic,

I have been buying from M-Machine for years, decent people to deal with. They are based in Darlington if you live anywhere nearby.

Ringwood don’t seem to have 416? M - machine have a minimum order of £8.50 plus £5.94 postage. I’ll have another search when I get a minute.

A bit mean with the postage, I have just bought a metre of 1" diameter 6086 aluminium for under £19 post paid.

Thanks, I had a look, they don’t stock 416 or any of the other 400 series.

I’ve found the last of my unknown, probably 400 series stainless, in my shed. It’s 3/4” diameter so a waste to cut some down but luckily it’s only a short bit needed.
