29 forum posts | Hi everyone. Can someone please tell me the PCD is of the Proxxon 24036 four jaw chuck? Also the dimensions of the register on the back would be very helpful. Thanks

Can’t you just measure the pod? And as for the register it’s not the size that matters it’s the FIT! . Very philosophical … but: being a mass-market device, one might reasonably assume that Proxxon has design tolerances for the parts [such that components are interchangeable] MichaelG. |

Can’t you just measure the pod? And as for the register it’s not the size that matters it’s the FIT! If I had something to measure I would have done that. I want to see if I can adapt this chuck to another machine, which is why I am asking. |

The chuck is for a PD230/E.

29 forum posts | Chronos and Axminster do have the same chuck I linked to on Amazon, but both more expensive than the Amazon one. Axminster not in stock but available to order. Chronos looks like it's in stock. Will contact Chronos for more info on the chuck dimensions. |

1089 forum posts 345 photos | Hi Neville. From your opening post I assumed that you had some specific need to use the Proxxon chuck. As the thread has evolved it looks like you are planning to buy one, and I wonder why. It may be that you are thinking that because Proxxon stuff is generally well made the 4-jaw will be a cut above the (much cheaper) Chinese/Indian offerings. That is not necessarily true. My first lathe was Proxxon PD400 which came with a really lovely Rohm 3-jaw - smooth and accurate. I ordered a 100mm 4-jaw (~£200) assuming it would be of similar quality. I received a Proxxon branded item which proved a real pain to use - very sticky with screws binding in the casting. The 4-jaw which came bundled with my Chinese lathe is far smoother. Looking at your Amazon link I see two reviews, one saying it's 'well manufactured and functions perfectly' and the other: 'The level of "precision" is just atrocious. There are no two jaws that would be of the same height. The machining is just sloppy with a lot of "apprentice marks" like burrs, uneven angles and discoloration from overheating. There is a lot of grinding dust and metal chips in the jaw screw threads. The starts of threads of the jaw screws are misshaped. The screws are binding in the head even without the jaws installed. Hopefully it all can be fixed but the chuck is absolutely not worth the money.' My experience with the PD400 chuck wasn't as dire as that of second reviewer, but closer than that of the first. Apologies if this isn't relevant to the decisions you are making Nevillle, just my two ha'porth (as we're going back to imperial). Regards, Robin.

29 forum posts | Thanks Robyn.
Had seen the reviews and was a bit worried about quality. I did buy a Proxxon PD-230E 3 jaw for my Toyo ML-1 lathe recently and that is very good. Fits the Toyo perfectly. Left my run too late for a PD-230/E four jaw as they are now out of stock everywhere I have looked. Was hoping to adapt the PD-250E to the Toyo if I could. |

. DeepL translates the tabulated values as : External Ø 79mm So you’re not quite there yet … but it’s probably worth browsing that site for more info. MichaelG. |

29 forum posts | I've emailed a couple of places that stock this chuck about dimensions, such as PCD and diameter of mount holes. If the PCD is 35mm I would be very happy. |
Neville Chase | 07/06/2022 10:39:22 |
29 forum posts | Mounting register for the Proxxon Chuck is 40mm and PCD is 34mm. Toyo spindle is a register of 22mm and a PCD 0f 35mm. That's going to be a challenge. |
Neville Chase | 07/06/2022 10:43:17 |
29 forum posts | If the PCD was 35mm I could probably make a disc 40mm x 22mm to press into the rear of the chuck. I do make things difficult for myself. |
