51 forum posts | I have been reading Edgar Westbury’s articles of 1942 on building the ‘ME Capstan Attachment for Small Lathes”, and came across this phrase on page 500 of the 21st May 1942 edition: ”Information on the design and operation of automatic indexing and locking gear was obtained from THE MODEL ENGINEER handbook, “Capstan and Turret Lathes”….” Does anyone have such a publication? Or access to a copy?

51 forum posts | David: you’re a star! It’s just that I’d like to read that particular text, really. I already have a book on the subject, but not actually the one mentioned… so I wondered if it was still obtainable, or accessible. I’m fairly acquainted with Ian Bradley’s work, under the Duplex name, but I’ve not come across much of Edgar Westbury’s writings except the Capstan Attachment articles. Rest assured I’ll be on the email again for tips and wrinkles, thanks again David! Mike

51 forum posts | Gents Thanks for your responses, and apologies for ‘senior moment’ repetition of the subject. Further: I did try and discover whether ‘Ned’s’ article ever extended to the automatic chuck that was mentioned in the text as possible (back in the day) but I don’t think we ever found an answer to that query.
