What is this?

Just for fun, but something to wrestle your thinking parts over perhaps!

I do know what it is and have frequently used it professionally, but not in my workshop. It is made out of a pale fine grained hardwood - birch perhaps? Grubby finger for scale.

It looks like part of a fishing float but not sure if you'd use that "professionally"!

Don't those need a groove for the rope? The ones I've used and made have them.

Maybe a bit small but it has the looks of a Rug Prodder.

I'll eave this up until the end of the day when I'll post the answer (unless anyone gets it right first)

While not engineering as such it is a clear use of simple technology to solve a real problem.

Something for opening up a woven material, for sewing? -maybe sailcloth or sacking

Hi, for putting a couple of holes in your gold tops, so you can control pouring your milk out, also useable on silver tops for the more common amongst us.
