Hi, Has anybody got some ideas on how to join a governor drive belt. Mine is made of leather and is only 6 mm wide. I will have to join mine in place as it goes around the crankshaft as normal. I have tried to stitch mine but that is very tricky and not very good.

Skived and endless would work.

Skiving a Bando type belt would work also.

here maybe

Jasons link to LSM lists a 1/2" belt, the joiner might work. Might be worth a call at least.

The drive belt for the fan on my Farm Boy is made from 1.8 mm O ring material joined with a simple butt join glued with a generic cyanoacrelate (super glue). I've been very pleasantly surprised how robust the belt is, so a simple glued butt join may well be worth a try.

It is interesting to learn that 'super glue' is flexible and lasting enough for a drive belt. If asked, I would have thought that Evostik type glue would have been the choice for this type of job.

You can also get flexible "superglues" such as Loctite's "black max" that has some rubber in it and may be better for a scarf type joint in the flat belt

OK, thanks, will try some of the glues mentioned. I was just a bit concerned that the glues would be a bit stiff to go around the governor pulley because it's only 1/2 in diameter.

Which is why I went for the butt join rather than a scarf (as well as being easier cool) though I guess that leather might tend to wick a thin glue which would tend to stiffen up the joint area. A gel type glue might be better.

Rod It's a leather belt 6mm wide so presumably flat. Difficult to butt join
