Gamage's Steam Engine

A bit of a long shot but I wonder if anyone has one of these engines or another image as I'd like to see it from the other side to see what the bearing and eccentric arrangement is rather that take a guess at it based on other similar models.

This is a rather poorly NDC belonging to my son, the eccentric sheave is part of the crank disc.

The strap and rod are broken and a solder repair has been attempted in the past. It seems to have just melted more of the rod away though.

I would probably have ended up with one of the bearing blocks between crank and eccentric had I not had those images.

Can you afford to make one with the highest grade anti-friction metal like the original?

No and I don't want any zinc alloy monkey metal failing over time

Colour of parts suggests I will be using bronze, it's also going to be the big bore version at 16mm rather than 5/8"

Are you sure you can match the superfine limits available from die casting?

I've made a start, decided on steel bearing posts with bronze bearings rather than solid bronze ones.

Fresh out of the pickle.

A bit more progress over the last week, cylinder still needs a bit more work and then the end covers will be profiled to a similar shape. I think this is the smallest flywheel I have made for an engine so will be interesting to see how it runs, I don't expect it to turn over as slowly as I like but that's not really what it was designed for.

Almost done, just a lock nut to make and file down some plugs once the JBWeld has set then should be ready to try on air.

A good save Jason, the info was getting sketchy

Well the JBWeld set overnight but still needs filing down and I have not made the locknut either but thought I would try it on a bit of air. Locked at TDC the first time but an adjustment to the valve rod length soon had the valve centralised and off it went. Should be better with a decent air connection, gland packing and the aforementioned locknut plus a lick of paint but here is the rough and ready version.
