Milling cutter

My mill is R8 and I have been giver a cutter and on the stem part of the R8 some one has engraved TCMT 2 (1.5 ) 7-UM 4025 P25 K 20. The cutter has two damaged triangular cutter. I have been looking to buy replacement but can't find any thing with those details. Will some one please point me in the right direction. Not urgent and will the cost give me heart problems. John

The insert designation is using the ANSI (American) system. Inserts sold here use the ISO system.

With inserts, the importance of the information conveyed decreases considerably the further to the right that you read. Some of what is shown on your cutter is likely a manufacturer-specific grade of carbide.

For buying replacements, start at the left and get the basic shape. Then, for your chosen manufacturer, look at their literature and choose one of their offerings to suit the material being cut.

TCMT 110204 is the size, you can check the diameter of yours. Just imagine a circle fitting within the triangle, if it is 11mm then the size is right. The thickness is 2.38mm. TCMT 110304 is 3.18mm thick. Lots on ebay. P25 is a common grade for steel.

I may have some TPUN inserts that would possibly fit, they are a turning tip but a quick touch on a diamond wheel and they work well for milling. I will look tomorrow and if I have any I will let you know and post for the cost of posting.

This guy sells older style carbide off cheaper than most.

When you post them to him, how will you send him the hole in the middle of the insert, that he needs for securing it? The second 'T' in his TCMT is quite important...

I was just looking at the insert size, I did not know the code refered to a hole. Guess I can't help but will still look in my box of unused inserts in case I have something suitable.

Many thank to all who responded to my request for information/help. The tool has just two triangular shaped tips with a recessed hole for the security screw. The existing tip is 2.5mm thick, the sweep is 25mm and from the base to the apex of the triangle it is 8.68mm What I don't want to do is buy some tips which I am unable to use. Having looked on the net there is just so much information of which I don't understand. John

John why not try to post a picture of the inserts with a ruler beside it. It may give members a better idea.
