Evening. I've recently taken on my Dad's Myford ML7 (1952-53), which he bought secondhand and never really used, other than to carry out some simple repairs to the lathe itself.

I'm a complete novice (I have a stained glass business, so I only ever work with lead and solder on the metal side) and plan on getting the lathe back in good shape and then using it for some simple bike related projects. I've used these forums as a reference for a while now as I get to find my way around, but I so have many questions I thought I'd best sign up and get things rolling.

Hi Gordon welcome to the forum. My wife has a dabble in stained glass and ocasionaly I have to make a fitting or pseudo musical instrument to include in her latest prodject or jig to suport a shaped piece. Just ask on here and there usually is someone who has done it or has relevant information.

Hello Gordon and welcome. Can you elaborate on the bike related part? Push bike or motor bike? If the latter then there are quite a few bikers on here.

It can help if you give a general idea of your location, there may be people near you who could help with any practical help should you need it.

As David says, any questions, just ask on here.

Welcome to the forum Gordon. Lots of Myford owners on here and plenty of other good advice to be had.

Posting photographs on the forum is a little unusual compared with other sites. If you want to share any pictures the How To is here.

Thanks for the welcome - I'm based in Aberdeenshire, and my work takes me throughout northern Scotland. Mainly to dilapidated churches it seems right now... I have a couple of mates who have been answering my newbie Q's, so they are probably relived to share the burden with you folks!

All pushbikes, at the moment that are all acoustic. I do a bit of MTB coaching and guiding, bike packing, trying to keep up with the kids and the near constant maintenance that a family of mountain bikers generates. I've made a few bearing press kits on the lathe (for frame bearing maintenance) which should stand me in good stead for replacing the countershaft oilite bearings, and I've also made some stem caps and axle holders.
