A good job on your lamp, interested in how you made the lamp cover David.

Hi

Bob I

had a go at cutting out the shape and silver soldering the join but it started to melt although I used a low temp jewlers solder. I had a go at lead soldering it but it was a pigs ear. 20200727_102220.jpg

I then made a wooden press tool from a piece of oak on the mill with a couple of pinns to locate the two halves. I anealed a piece of brass and pressed it in the vice with a small amount of getting it worked well.

A lot of work involved getting the shape with no joints, well done Dave.

Just a bit nearer. Made part of generator to power the lamp post. Cut a plate to mount the motor on. Made a strip and end cap and soldered together. The cap was anealed and spun on the lathe to make the shape on a former.

The retaining lugs were bent and drilled and a ferrule made and soldered for exit for wiring to lamp.

Very good work David, l like the former as well.

I'll be interested to see how you link it all up with your mini oscillator

Just had a look at your picture file and the boiler snaps.

You've made a really good job of it, looks great

I have made the bracket to support the motor/generator and decided to check out if it works ok.

I powered up the wobbler and no problem.

The output is 3.2 volts and so time to Finnish the lamp etc.

Finnished the lamp post. Painted polished and made the globe for the LED just needs wire soldering on and insulating.

Hi John I bought them from RS

3.2 V White LED 5mm Through Hole, Nichia NSPW515DS

I had to turn the flange off the base of the LED body so they would go through the tapped 6mm hole.

What can I do now I am trying to think of something to make, maybe a more complicated steam engine.

Well I like it David. Looks great, and as I said in an earlier post the boiler is superb.

Well done

Geoff

I'm sure you will get some suggestions for your next engine. Have you made one with a slide valve. A lot of people go from the simple oscillator to a simple slide valve engine
