Has anyone bought a Chinese eBay BT30 spindle? I am looking at getting one to retrofit in my mill drill to get rid of the mt3 spindle with a few mods. Was wondering what they are like and do they have the recess machined into them to take a pull stud claw. All the suppliers know nothing about them when asked!!

thanks

Mark

No but the answers will be interesting, do the ads specify an exact machine, can you attach the link?

Just an afterthought, the quality is not going to be guaranteed & that is what you want in an item such as a milling spindle.

_igp2434.jpg_igp2428.jpgThe ebay spindles seem to be mostly ISO 30 which have the 12mm thread, but some have the drive cutouts and some do not. I know there are several variations in every size of this type of milling spindle tooling, its difficult to know whether one will just fit, or need modifications. The pull studs just screw in if a drawbar is not used.

I went the R8 route from MT2, it was the easier option.

Oops, does this contravene the new code of conduct?

Paul.

Mark,

I doubt yours will contravene the new code. It is apparently a ‘light- fingered’ approach regarding moderation and will apply mainly to the ‘phoney’ reviews which pervade certain youtube channels where ‘influencers’ may otherwise gain free advertising on the forum if allowed to be posted within threads.

There may be several suppliers who sponsor the forum (by buying advertising space) who are faced with aggressive advertising by other suppliers at no cost (along with ‘reviews’ which are very one-sided in favour of that supplier) other than rewarding the ‘influencers’ with free gifts and possibly other un-taxed remuneration.

See Neil's recent post here

It was actually this thread that prompted me to chase up getting something put on the forum as I could see just such links being posted having been actively moderating a couple of others over the last couple of days.

Mark,

I don't think you have done anything wrong, I was just making a point that the supplier in your link may come under several criteria listed in the new policy (not a UK seller, no confirmation import duties are properly paid etc) Pay no heed from a personal perspective.

Paul.

I am suprised that a spindle big enough for a 30 taper fits a milldrill quill. Even R8 could be big for bearings designed for MT3 but you mention 'mods'. Details will be interesting if you do it.

My Mill drill head uses the same bearings set as a Bridgeport, going on the rough dimensions provided by the sellers the spindle is the same length between bearings and very similar else where, the splines may be different dia depending on how the sellers have measured them.
