A friend has just bought an old Drummond Lathe, it is not a round bed but in its early life it was pedal operated and has now been converted to single phase electric. I am a Myford man so I have to ask the more knowledgeable readers this question , what is the unit that looks like an adjustable clutch that is situated inside the Bull Ring gear in the head stock but does not have an operating lever ?.

If anyone in the Wetherby/York area has one we would appreciate having a look at it .

The ring is to disconect the front drive so you can rotate the back gear lever to drive slowly. It disconnects a plunger into the bull gear by rotating a ring with a ramp on. There is a screw with a screw driver slot, on my one to stop the ring rotating on its own as you don't want to connect both at the same time, broken gears or other damage.

I have Keith's email address if we are allowed to publish it here.

‘Email addys are best kept to PM’s’, would be advisable. Keeps their addy out of the public domain (these threads are visible to anyone and everyone on the internet).

I used to have an m series Drummond. In the photo that is for the back gear. You should also have a little lever to activate a cam which engages the backing gears.
