Just wondering if anyone has one of those or its smaller bench brother

At first sight the low speed seems far too high and I wonder whether the pulleys could be changed to mitigate this.

I was under the impression that SIP products were not readily available other than to the trade; where could one get a look at them?

Machine mart sell them however never seen one in the flesh

In my opinion there only fit for the scrap bin

Poorly made . Mine Broke and I contacted Sip the spindle pulley shaft is no longer available! Even though they are still selling the new machines with the same part.

I've managed to source one from sealy which seems to be the same machine. Still waiting for it to arrive

If I had my time over again I would buy a good 2hand one even if you have to splash out on an inverter

I do have one but just thought by the time I converted it it would be easier to just get a new one and sell the old one

update- just got home from work and the sealy part is not the same, so if anyone wants a PDM155B-3-07 pulley insert for a sealy machine let me know.

to original poster save your money and buy yourself a decent second hand meddings forbco etc even if its 3 phase and you have to splash out on an inverter you wont regret it

I have a Qualters & Smith 750, slowest speed is 80rpm for a 16mm drill in steel. The table is much larger than the SIP. The column is 23/4"

300rpm is for wood or small bits

Cannot see any advantage over my Taiwan 12 speed floor drill, which can and did drill 1" holes in steel, and is still going strong since 1983. Simple to change speeds [same belts ]. The only change I made was to fit an NVR a few years back. These drills are widely available and not too dear, don't mind the name.

I agree a good old quality second hand drill and buy a 3 phase convert , I've recently brought a fobco 1/2 cap floor standing drill it already had a 3 phase motor on it and I had a spare 3 phase convert luckily, to suit the motor, using my pendent switch I can run it from 1 rpm to 4200 rpm if I wished , the drill came from a local joinery company that was closing down (£25)

Just looked at ebay but Fobco seem to be £500+  Any other makes I should look at?  Are Jet any good

How easy it it to install 3 phase converter and any speciafic reccomendation for which one

converters are dead easy there are wiring diagrams supplied with the units also you can mount the unit on a wall away from the machine and have a separate small speed control on the machine itself.

can't comment on jet as far as I know they only do woodworking stuff but somebody else in the know will probably let you know.

Iv'e got a Meddings myself ex BAE probably 40+ years old and apart from a few usual marks on the table i'm very happy with it. paid £250 for it
