Just started to machine my S50 cylinder... so far so good, but... while boring I've discovered a small blow hole.

Worth worrying about or just carry on?

Doubt it will affect performance. Could be filled with JB Weld before you hone the cylinder.

Also make sure you poke some thin wire down into the steam passages as they often have core sand left in them which won't do the engine much good.

I think you'll be fine with that. The steam passages still need to be drilled - one teh S50 Stuart don't cast them in.

Cheers Jason.

I mailed Stuart this morning first thing, and they're gonna send me a new casting... really quick reply too! Well impressed with the customer service!

Point taken RE the sand though, as it does look fairly full still.

Good stuff. At least you can practice drilling the steam pasages on the redundant casting!

Glad it all worked out for you but a solution would have been to bore it out larger and fit a liner.

That tiny hole would have been fine with JB Weld or similar, the only real issue would have been the risk of it damaging piston packing, its impact with a piston ring would be tiny.

Good on Stuarts for replacing it though.

Would have been ok with JB weld b4 honing. thumbs up for Stuarts, had similar problem with the standard on my S10V, e-mailed them with pic, had a replacement within 48 hrs FOC. Well done Stuarts.

George.

Just to add a 'well done' on the photo front Lainchy. It couldn't be easy to get that blowhole to show on a photo - you must have been careful and or clever with the lighting!!

It took a few goes John lol! I've been busy doing the valve chest/rod and gland over the weekend. Chipping away at it slowly
