My wife and I had a nice day out at Hemswell Cliff which is an ex RAF base that has been taken over by antiques dealers.

I picked up a set of slip gauges and some tobacco tins for £40.

For anyone interested in a trip out. I saw a load of ME magazines from about the early 2000's, probably a stack 3' tall (in Astra antiques)

In the architectural salvage place, they have;

A boring head, about 5" diameter not sure what the taper was, but it was about the size of MT5 and the shape of R8. Looked in good condition.

A boring head on a MT3 taper. plus a very nice drawbar. Fair condition

A spindle about 5" long, not sure what it was for.

Two rectangular angle plates about 8" x 4" Fair condition

An adjustable angle plate approx 8" x 4" Good condition

Rotary table about 8". Fair condition. I was very tempted, but it would not have fitted my mill.

The guy selling them doesn't have a clue what they are or what they are worth.

Same here, it is a one off, he does not normally have machine tools. It just came with some other stuff he cleared.

No need to buy tobacco tins!

If you are prepared to come to Peterborough to collect them, you can see the Cathedral, shop in Queensgate (SWMBO?) or ride on the Nene Valley Railway, I can find a few for you.

Just PM me

Hemswell is hit-and-miss - it's a place I regularly visit particularly the car boot, often there is a chap selling engineering stuff and another selling offcuts. Usually the good stuff coincides with the Antiques fair at Newark Showground

Not forgetting the weather, it is Lincolnshire after all...

Our armed forces aren't what they were.

RAF Hemswells other claim to fame is that it was where the film 'The Dam Busters' was made because Scampton had been modified as it was still a working base whereas Hemswell was no longer in use but retained the original station buildings and hangars.

We regularly go to the Autojumbles at Hemswell and I have found several bargains there, Myford/Drummond M with loads of tooling £200.00, Over 40 model engineering magazines £5.00, There are usually several stalls selling engineering bits also 3 cups of tea and 3 bacon butties for about £8.00 can't be bad.
