Laptop batteries

Can anyone recommend a supplier of decent quality batteries, at a modest price?

... I think all or most are made in China; so 'country of origin' should not, of itself, be an issue.

I have a little white MacBook which remains occasionally useful, so two years ago I treated it to a new 'aftermarket' battery ... which is now useless.

Before throwing good money after bad, I thought it worth asking for opinions.

At that price, it should be genuine Apple ... but, especially with the additional shipping cost, it's probably worth considerably more than the ten year old MacBook.

... Which is why, of course, I made the cheapskate purchase two years ago

Never had a cheap clone battery yet that I wasn't disappointed with although Duracell do equivalents and they're pretty good. Worth checking if they cover your model.

I haven't bought laptop batteries ( although I think I am about to, I have three Sony laptops of varying vintage which are close to death ) but did buy some batteries for a wireless telephone system a while back. These were sold on ebay as genuine OEM parts in original packaging, and indeed they were.

The only problem was that they were the same age as the ones they were replacing so although unused the lifespan was very limited.

The moral of the story: check the date of manufacture of the battery before purchase. It appears that unless there is continued high demand, special design batteries cease being made fairly soon after the product for which they are designed is superseded and the ones available on the net may be old stock.

In the case of a mobile phone, I did have marginally better success with a clone ( phone went to God before the battery but it was a close run thing )..

perhaps not quite what u want but there are very good power packs out there trhat will power up Phones and note pads with ease.......

mine is rechargable via USB....from the car, desk top etc....mine is an early 1 but now they have super capacity...

very handy on trips they can also recharge the TOM-TOM as well.....be lost without mine...pun intended...hahaha...

also just installed a double domestic switched socket with 2 USB charger sockets built in....£20......

make life so much easier in the kitchen.....

need to bite the bullet and bin the obsolete chargers.....scary.......hahah.....

it'll be a while before I can afford replacements for all the electricals so thay can be charged by a proximity charger...

no wires at all just leave ur device near the charger.....

A quick update:

The aftermarket battery having been declared dead, I decided to open up its case:

Three cells and small circuit board ... with nothing obviously amiss

So, I tried reconnecting it

Yes ... it works

First try, it charged to about 76% and after a couple of cycles is now charging to 100%

I can only assume that some dimensional tolerancing error was causing a bad contact on the connector !!

... The pack is now held together with Kapton tape

I think you have to be so careful of replacement batteries, I bought a 'genuine' Canon battery for my DSLR worked ok for a while then wrecked my £60 Canon charger!

Not the bargain I thought it was.

I use Insten batteries via the USA for my 450D and 1000D, they have significantly greater capacity than both Canon and the cheapies and only cost a bit more than the cheapies.

Not a known brand in the UK, but sold by outlets like Walmart in the USA so not just a random logo.
