Can a forum member please help with -

I have a yellow and black plastic box with red stop and green start buttons and a large mushroom head emergency stop, which I want to connect to a single phase mains motor. No instructions, terminals not obvious and not wired up anything like this before.

Any help and advice would be very much appreciated. TIA.

John

You are in luck, I have just fitted one!
Can't post a photo of wiring diagram - cos it don't work, but here goes :-
Live in (mains) to terminal (1) on emergency stop button. Live out from emergency stop button (2) to start/stop switch (13). Live out from start/stop switch (14) to motor.
Neutral mains in to start/stop switch (23) neutral mains out from start/stop switch (24) to motor.
The above applied to my yellow/black switch - hope it's the same as yours!
Pleased with mine.

This is the data sheet for the Axminster one. Some others have diagrams or IN / OUT on the switch body.

Hi Alan and Vic,

Sorry its taken me so long to reply - been busy on other things. Many thanks for your advice and will have a go at wiring the box in soon. Will let you know how I get on.

Larry, not sure about your reply - did you mean, "ask me?"

I fitted mine to replace my 60 year old MEM switch which was very noisy - this one works a treat.
I did stick a piece of metal on top of the switch box which is big enough to keep fine swarf out of the emergency button as mine is sort of in the line of fire!

The MEM starter also provided overload protection to the motor, the switch you have fitted only provides no volt protection so there is a risk of burning out the motor windings.

Quite agree, but I still have current limited by the VFD's supplying my lathe and mill motors.

Hi Alan (AJW),

Followed your advice and it works OK.

Thank you very much.

I wonder why the data sheet copy sent by Vic is different? Maybe its OK for the way the innards of Axminsters boxes are configured. Mine looks exactly like Axminster's, even same product code but as mine came from China, and much cheaper, I suspect its a knockoff copy with the innards configured differently.
