Dear all,

I need some help and I hope that this is the right place to post...

I have a steam engine that is currently not working. Please take a moment and view her not working here : https://imgur.com/a/sW72cVt

and a video of her manually turning : **LINK**

Basically, the old girl needs some love. She was made by my Grandad (who was a metal work teacher in Lewes Secondary school in the 50s / 60s) and passed to my Dad who fondly remembers her working (he thinks!). Now after a number of moves, she has lost a few bits and looks like she needs some TLC.

I would be interested to know what can be done to get her working again - I know that my Dad would be over the moon and it would be a wonderful legacy for my Grandad. Heck - my kids would find it fascinating!

So I would love to be able to connect with someone on here and ask for their help. Obviously, I'm happy to pay to get her back up and running. We are based in Kent.

Please do let me know.

Many thanks in advance,

Chris

Hi Chris, A bit of work to do, but most of the engine seems to be there. You seem to be missing the cap on the crankshaft bearing. On the right side the rod that operates the slide valve needs a pin to connect it together. The rod on the left eccentric may have operated a water pump, probably to feed water to the boiler. A clean up and maybe some paint and you have a very nice little engine to remember your Grandad.

Hello Chris,

It does look a little sad, but is not beyond rescue!

If no-one on the forum can help, there are people who do this sort of work who advertise in ME and MEW.

Chris, Neil - we undertake repairs and restorations. It needs a new cross head bearing too.

Why is Fizzy allowed to openly advertise his business in the forum? I thought that was not allowed.

Probably because he pays for advert space in ME just like CUP, ARC and a few of the others that post on the forum.
