Received great service from Toolstation. Living in N Ireland we, like many others in far flung parts of the UK usually have to pay extra despite the business offering ‘free deliver in UK’. With Toolstation any order over £10 is delivered free. Recently got a loft ladder, reduced from £80 to £50 and it came free p&p– and on the day expected as well.

I use tool station for a lot of things, they recently built one a couple of miles from me and it saves time and fuel getting into town now.

They are the team that set up Screwfix down in Somerset. Then B&Q bought it out, moved the business to the Midlands and they were left twiddling their thumbs and / or redundant. So they set up again - as Toolstation.

In the early days (pre-1999), SF were catalogue-only and IIRC P&P was either free or pretty cheap - and next day. Looks as if they only went online just before they were bought out.

TS don't have the same breadth of range as SF (yet?) but often they are cheaper and / or they stock different brands / range. I notice that they are often literally right next door or across the road from SF(!), so I've often ended up calling in at both places. Got to be good to encourage them, so worth checking them out as well as SF when you are looking for stuff. Like SF, you can easily return unused or unsuitable goods and if you open a free account, the receipts are sent as emails so you can't lose them (works for SF, TS and B&Q).

Do comparison on prices between TS and SF, I have found that prices at TS can work out cheaper, sometimes by £s, my local ones are both on the same trading estate, agreed TS doesn't have the same range of products as SF but I always check prices online before buying and invariably end up at TS, and as Neil says free coffee.

My local TS and SF exist quite literally next door to each other.

Muzzer:

Now I know why their catalogues look so similar.

Yes, I now stop in for a cup of tea on my rounds. Yesterday I got a sausage butty and translucent fries from Asda for £2 and a free cup of tea from Toolstation next door to take away the taste. Lunch on a budget - helps the Scotshireman in me to sleep at night! The food was disgusting but it took away any feelings of hunger and kept the blood pressure up.

Our Asda, Screwfix & Toolstation all form a line about 50 yards long, so every 2 weeks, we fill up the car with food, fuel & useful stuff.

Regards,

Richard.

Lucky folks, my TS and SF are at least a 1/4 mile apart and MM is the other side of town!

Neil,

I have the choice of three MM in my area, the nearest is 30 miles, I shouldn't complain smiley
